She drew back. “Really? You really want me to remember the day we decided to get married as the day you turned me down?”

He barked out a laugh. “As if I’d ever turn you down. But I am asking you to wait. At least for a few minutes.”

“We’re more than a few minutes from home,” she pointed out. They weren’t far, but it was closer to twenty-five minutes than afewminutes.

“We’re not going home,” he said.

She arched a brow. “We’re not?”

He shook his head. “No, we’re not. At least not yet.”

“Might I ask why?”

He smiled. “Because I have a mystery lake to show you.”
