Page 63 of Reclaiming Quinn
Chapter Seventeen
DEKE! DEKE!
Deke opened his eyes at the desperate sound of Quinn’s voice. The room was still dark, but he could see a thin shaft of light from beneath the door. Beside him, Zach lay snoring.
Deke!
Quinn? Baby, are you okay?
My wolf, Deke.
Deke sat up, the words hitting him like a hammer. What’s wrong?
Ifeltit! My wolf isn’t dead.
Relief flooded Deke. It was good to hear Quinn excited.I told you that. I could smell your wolf.
I know. Mother told me the same thing, but until a few minutes ago, I wasn’t sure I could believe it.
Quinn sent images to Deke of Gareth standing over him, calling to Quinn’s wolf, and Deke could actually hear the answering howl. He had to tamp down on his own wolf, who wanted to return the call of his mate. It sent shivers skittering up his back, because that was what he wanted. To be out with Quinn, traveling the woods of Lydon, frolicking, drinking from the cold river that ran through the 7,000 acres of pristine woodlands and lying out under the moon, staring up and—
That sounds so nice.
The longing in Quinn’s voice threatened to undo Deke. He wanted to provide for his mate, to give him everything the world had to offer and more.
I don’t need that. Do you really want to know what I’d like?
Desperately.Please, tell me.
Quinn did more than tell him. He sent more images of the two of them on the bed, with Quinn wrapped around Deke, his head on Deke’s chest.
It’s Sunday, and you don’t have to work. You ask me what I want to do, and I tell you all I care about is being close. You turn over and pull me into your arms, stare into my eyes, and whisper how much you love me. That’s all I want.
Simple pleasures were the best.So no more travel?
You’re kidding. With how this trip turned out, I’ll be happy to never leave Lydon again, at least as long as you’re there.
A longing ache filled Deke.I want to come home.
I want you here. Gareth is moving heaven and earth to find out where you are, but he has to do it cautiously.
Deke reached up and rubbed his shoulder. He was well aware of why Gareth needed to be careful.
There have been rumbles about moving again. If we keep doing it, you might never find us. As it stands, I think Klein is planning on the auction this week. And if he does, they’re going to kill Zach and cut him up for meat to sell.
Rage unlike Deke had ever felt slammed into his mind. Quinn’s anger was a thing to behold.
Bullshit! You have to figure out how to stop it. That little girl can’t die.
Deke could see the image of Margaret in Quinn’s mind. He loved the little girl whom he’d protected as best as he could.
Ask Gareth and Lyram what they want me to do. I can shift, but I can’t fight all the guys here.
What about Zach?
What about him? He’s injured, so I don’t think he’ll be much help in a fight.
Be careful with him. There’s something there. I can sense it. He’s not being completely honest with you.
