To her surprise, he hesitated, she saw it. Sherlock said slowly, “You plan to kill Eve, too, and blame her murder on Mason Lord. She’d be another casualty of the war you’re going to try to start.”
“Murder is nothing to either of those two old men. It’s easy for them, a snap of the fingers, and it’s done, by them or by their thugs. Both Shaker and Lord warred on each other for years, unlimited murder and mayhem until Mrs. Hunt stopped them six years ago. They’ll do it again. They’ll explode each other’s worlds and when they’ve destroyed each other, I’ll come in and take over. I married Eve, I’m Shaker’s son-in-law. I’m his natural heir like I said. Eve’s a knockout, sure, but she’s still just a girl. If I have to, I’ll make her my partner. She’s tired of taking daddy’s orders. She wants the power. I’ll make her believe I’ll share it with her.”
Sherlock said, “Eve told you this? She wants to take her father’s place now? Sorry, there’s no way that’s true. She will see through you, Richie, see to your rotten core.”
He was so furious his hand was shaking.
“And what about Domino? Will she survive? Or will she be another casualty of your war?”
“Rich? Is she right?”
He got hold of himself. “Domino, don’t listen to her. Now, Agent, I’ve had enough. Turn on the recorder, Mrs. Hunt, and read.”
