She clamped her hand against her mouth, her eyes going wide. “Emiyah, we left her waiting in the hallway this whole time.” Shea opened the door and rushed by him to stop suddenly and felt the hard press of his chest as he had followed behind her.

“Emiyah?”

She moved into another room and another until she saw the note on the kitchen table.

She burst out laughing, and Roland took the note from her, reading it and then muttering a curse.

You think I am going to stand here and listen to all that and smell it too? Not a chance. I will be okay to head to the king’s dwelling on my own, thank you. I will let the king know that you are busy, getting to know each other in the most personal way?. Em.

“Let’s go. That crazy woman had better be waiting at your dad’s house.”

They shifted and ran together; Roland moved ahead, and she watched him run, his wolf so beautiful to her and his rump—she suddenly wanted to take a nip of it.

He stopped suddenly, turned, and gave her a look, his head shaking back and forth before turning again.

Wait? Can he hear her?

Now this was an interesting development.

Chapter 11

Roland

Roland shifted as he got to the steps and waited there for his soulmate. He watched as she raced toward him, her brown and black coat shimmering as she ran. She was adorable to him and chuckled when he had heard in his head her thoughts of biting his ass.

He had begun to suspect that they were starting to hear each other’s thoughts, not all, but some, and was surprised by this. He needed to speak to his dad because he didn’t know of anyone in their clan that could do that. Maybe someone in the past had, and his father would know.

Roland didn’t know if this was a good thing or would become problematic; he didn’t want someone to know his every thought in his head, including his mate.

She shifted, looking slightly dishevelled, her black curls on top of her head tight, with wisps gracing her forehead and neck. His glance stayed on the neck that he found very enticing, and he saw her pulse quicken. He raised his lips to her plump brownish-pinkish-colored lips that he wanted to dip inside again to taste her nectar. His eyes met dark brown ones that he began to lose himself in. His mate was a beautiful, shapely woman that was becoming an addiction to him.

He pulled away but couldn’t stop from taking another kiss and hearing her happy sigh before pulling away and donning the responsibility now of the soon-to-be heir.

There were two people missing now, but his main concern was getting Shea safely inside, under his father’s watch. He would then focus on finding Mack and Adanya and the mystery pack that took them.

He opened the door and stepped inside only to be immediately greeted by the angry and worried faces of his father, Emiyah, and the guards.

He quickly ushered Shea in, foreboding now like sharp razors in his stomach.

“Father, what is going on?”

“Son. Shea, welcome!” His father moved toward her and gave her warm kisses against her cheeks.

“We will welcome you in proper fashion, but right now I need to speak to my son.” His father squeezed her shoulders and then turned to look at him expectedly.

He nodded and watched as Shea and Emiyah moved toward each other and hugged. He heard them whispering as he followed his father and the men into the study.

“Where is Fantasy?”

“Upstairs resting, apparently.”

“What is going on?”

And he heard no more as the door shut behind them.

His father turned with a solemn expression.

“Calum, tell Roland what happened when you went to search.”

Roland turned to Calum. “We found their scent and were heading in their direction when we suddenly lost it.”

Roland moved closer to Calum. “What? What do you mean?”

“That’s not the only thing. Before we lost the scent, we stumbled on blood on a spot along the trail we were following. It was a lot, and it smelled of Mack.”

Roland felt like all the blood had suddenly drained from his body.
