Good.He should be.
“I’m going to request to have a new point of contact for Lust’s treasury department,” Rexton continues. “I didn’t know your history with that woman, and I won’t meet with her again.”
I nod. Rexton continues. “I wish you had given me the benefit of the doubt. I’ve done nothing to make you think I would cheat, and I don’t appreciate how you jumped to conclusions.”
I swallow past the lump in my throat. He’s not wrong. “I’m sorry. I assumed you were aware of my history with that woman. I’m surprised you weren’t. Have you not done any research into me?”
Rexton shrugs. “I did a bit, but I didn’t pry into your private details.” He smirks. “I assume you can’t say the same.”
“No.”
I have a whole file on him. I have a wealth of information, most of which is private. Will it upset Rexton? I never considered the possibility of us being together when I asked Wren to put the file together, and the information he provided is sensitive. I shouldn’t lie about it.
I nudge Rexton off me, already missing his warmth and weight, and retrieve his file from underneath my liquor cabinet. Rexton is lying on his back when I return to the bedroom. He’s making himself comfortable in my bed.
This will be an adjustment.
“I didn’t…” I hesitate, then shove the file against his chest. “I promise I never read the medical records.”
Rexton sits up and flicks through the report. I don’t think I’ve ever been so frightened, and I shift my weight as I wait for his response. He’s going to be upset. He’s going to hate me.
He flinches when he reaches the medical records, and our bond shudders as he skims over the first few pages.
“You didn’t look through these?” he asks.
I shake my head. “Never.”
Rexton only takes a few minutes to read through the report, but it feels like a lifetime. I count every second, and I’m pretty sure my heart is going to explode out of my chest when he finally sets it down. He doesn’t make eye contact.
“Cassia,” he starts, still staring at the report. “This is really fucking creepy.”
“I know.”
“Where did you even get all this information?”
“Wren.”
“The man you dated?”
“Yes.”
Rexton finally looks up. He appears calm, but our bond says something entirely different.
“Are you frequently in contact with Wren?”
I shake my head. “No. I hardly ever see him.”
“All right.” Rexton blows out a long breath. “I’m going to destroy this, and we’re going to pretend this never happened.”
“I’d appreciate that.”
The corner of Rexton’s lip twitches, and he pulls up a knee before spreading his arms and gesturing for me to join him in bed. “Come on, then. I have to leave for a meeting soon, and I want to take you on your hands and knees beforehand.”
That sounds fun.
