“Option A. We continue as we have been, living our lives in separate apartments, me coming over whenever I have a break from the hospital, and hoping I don’t fall asleep before I have a chance to tell you about my day. We continue maintaining two residences in separate locations.”

“Is there an Option B?”

“Yes,” Patch grinned at her. He opened the ring box, and held it up. “Option B, you accept this ring and my invitation to become my wife, knowing that all my love, my heart, body, and soul are attached to the ring and the proposal. We get married, buy a house, and start a family in one location. You accept me with all my flaws, and know I will accept you, and protect you for the rest of your life. I love you. Will you marry me?”

Silver stared down at Patch through the haze of unshed tears, then grinned. “Option B, baby. With you, I will always take option B.”

“Yes!” Patch pumped his fist into the air, and he removed the ring and put it on the proper finger on her left hand. Once it was in place, he pulled her down to him, and devoured her mouth with his. They broke apart, and he put his forehead on hers. “I told you months ago, I loved your option B. It took me a long time to come up with mine.”

“But, it was perfect. I love you, and can’t wait to become your wife.” They kissed again, and the next time they parted, they were pulled to their feet and passed around the room to receive hugs and kisses from the entire Atwater clan.

Later that night, as they settled in bed, Patch drew her close to him and sighed heavily.

“Are you okay?”

“I am. I’m so happy you agreed to be my wife. If it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t be where we are right now, in this house, snuggled next to my family. I have dreams for us to be together for the next eighty years, and fill our home with love, laughter, children, family, and eventually grandchildren.”

“Don’t forget the great-grandchildren. And I know you know this, but I have to say it. I love you Douglas Michael Atwal, or Michael Douglas Atwater, whatever name you choose to go by, know that I love you from the very marrow of my bones, and can’t wait to start our lives together.”
