Later, I wake to find my bed empty. Sitting up, it’s dark, and there’s no sign of Blade. Crawling out of bed, I find my dressing gown and walk down the hall. He’s not in the bathroom, my living room, or the kitchen.

Staring out into the backyard, I see him crouched down, talking on the phone, his hand in scorched earth.

Opening my back door alerts him to my presence, and he stands, dusting off his hand on his jeans. Blade is barefoot with no shirt on, and I pad out to him and wrap my arms around him.

“Vex, I’ve gotta go. I’ll be out there soon.” He kisses the top of my head. “Be calm. I’m sure the police are only doing their due diligence.” Blade sighs. “Hannah talked to Tessa today. I’m under the impression that Tessa is okay.” Another sigh. “You’re right, of course she’s not okay, but she hasn’t talked to anyone except Hannah.” Blade’s fingers trail up and down my spine. “Yes, brother, see you soon.” He ends the call and wraps me in his arms.

“Problem?”

“The police have been talking to people in town about Jasper. Vex saw them talking to Tessa, and he’s worried.”

“Tessa won’t say anything,” I say firmly. I know Tessa well enough to know that she’s not the type to run to the cops with her secrets, especially not when they concern the MC.

Looking up at Blade, he gives me a small, knowing smile. “You seem pretty sure of that.”

“I am,” I reply without hesitation. There’s a confidence in my voice, a certainty that I can’t quite explain, but I trust her. I trust that she knows the gravity of the situation.

Blade’s smile fades just a little, and he looks at me with a thoughtful expression. “Do you feel up to talking to Vex and the rest of the MC, assuring them of that?”

Pausing for a second, the weight of Blade’s question sinks in. But I know it’s necessary. “How about I do one better?”

Blade stops in his tracks, looking down at me with an eyebrow raised. “How?”

“How about we pick up Tessa, and she can tell them herself?” I suggest, my eyes meeting his, waiting for his reaction.

“You think she’d do that?” Blade’s voice is laced with skepticism, but I can see the wheels turning in his head. He’s weighing up the idea.

“We’ll never know if we don’t ask,” I say, my voice softer now, carrying the weight of a truth I’m not sure I fully understand. “Besides, she trusts me, and I trust you.”

The words feel right as they leave my lips, a declaration I never thought I’d make, but somehow it’s true. Tessa has proven herself, and Blade, well, I know he would never hurt me.

Blade stands there, his brow furrowing slightly as he processes my words. “Okay.”

I blink at him, surprised by how quickly he agrees. “Wow, that was easy.”

He smirks, his eyes darkening with amusement. “Well, if she doesn’t run screaming when she sees me with you, I guess we’ll both know how she feels.”

Laughing softly, I shake my head at his teasing. “Give me a minute to shower and get dressed,” I say, already moving forward.

Blade walks beside me, his presence a constant warmth. “Take your time,” he says, his voice low and steady, but he’s watching me like a hawk. “Would you feel comfortable staying at the clubhouse tonight?” His question catches me off-guard.

The clubhouse is where Blade and the MC live, a world I’ve barely started to understand, a place where loyalty, trust, and danger all collide.

Chewing my lip, uncertainty creeps into my chest. “Am I safe there?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.

It’s not just about physical safety, though I need to know that too. It’s about emotional safety, about whether I’ll be able to step into that world and hold my own.

Blade takes a step closer to me, his hand reaching out to touch my arm.

He places his hand over my heart, where it’s beating a little too fast and loud. “Absolutely, and so is Tessa,” he says, his voice firm with the kind of certainty that makes my breath catch in my throat.

“Okay,” I say, nodding, feeling the weight of the decision settle into my bones.

Blade smiles, a crooked, teasing grin playing at the corners of his lips. “Wow, that was easy,” he mocks, mimicking my earlier words with exaggerated drama.

I roll my eyes and scowl, my cheeks flushing at how easily he’s able to make light of the situation. “You owe me for that,” I mutter, crossing my arms.

His expression softens, and there’s a flicker of something in his eyes, a genuine amusement, maybe?

“Name it, it’s yours,” he says, his voice low, laced with promise.

“Orgasms, at least three.”

Surprised at my demand, he bursts out laughing. “It would be my pleasure.”

“Oh no, honey, it’ll be mine.”

With his laughter surrounding me, I bound into the bathroom and turn on the shower. I’m not sure if the MC life is for me, but something in me knows that I’m stepping into a world that’s both terrifying and comforting, and Blade will be by my side every step of the way to guide me.

And for once, I’m not running.

Not from him.

Not from the scary monsters he calls brothers.

I’m running to him and the promise of a life well lived.

But the curiosity remains, gnawing at me about their secret world.

Whatever is coming next with Vex and Tessa, I know it’s only the beginning of their story.
