“We haveto stop meeting like this,” I say.
“Trust me, it’s not intentional.” There’s less feistiness in her tone than usual. I have a feeling it’s the shock of seeing me that has her tongue.
Even after kicking the two douchebags’ asses, she’s not even breaking a sweat or out of breath. She takes a step away from me.
I peer over her shoulder. “Did you kill them, then set them up as fuck buddies?”
“No, I didn’t kill them.” She hesitates. “They were getting ready to pound the shit out of someone, so I stepped in and… helped.” She crosses her arms over her chest. “Since you’re a bully yourself, you wouldn’t understand.”
I laugh. “Yeah, maybe. But from what I saw, you handled it just fine.” I glance around. No one else is here. “Is the guy okay?”
She looks surprised that I would ask but says, “Yeah, he ran off.” She knits her brows in contemplation. “I want to ask you something.”
Oh shit. Here we go. “What?”
“How come, with all of your warnings, you never told me what Josh did to get on your shit list?”
“It was none of your business.”
“Nice.” Shaking her head, she starts to walk away.
I grab her arm and bring her face very close to mine. “Look, Kade doesn’t like talking about it.”
She pulls her arm away. “Well, for your information, I don’t like the idea of being raped.”
It’s a stupid comeback because she and I both know Josh would never be able to get that far with her, even if he had a couple of his sick friends helping him. She’d tear them apart like the two dicks on the floor behind us. And if Josh did hurt her, no one could stop me from fucking killing him then.
She looks away from me, then folds her arms over her chest again.
“He would never get anywhere with you. You know it, and so do I.”
She returns her gaze to mine. “How come you guys haven’t served him up what he has coming?”
I shake my head. “It’s not that easy. Believe me, I fucking wish it was.”
“Too much red tape and money involved?”
Nodding, I say, “Yeah, that’s most of it.”
Giving her credit, she doesn’t ask me anymore.
I pull her shirt. She unfolds her arms and tries to pull free, but I grab her hand before she can protest too much.
“Come on,” I say. If watching her fight doesn’t get me hard as fuck, nothing will. And if she’s anything like me, fighting gets her fucking worked up.
She resists less than I thought she would. “Where are we going?”
I don’t answer as I continue to lead her to the back of the library. A couple are already making out in the corner I aimedfor. I clear my throat. The guy looks up, grabs the hand of the girl, and then, without a word, they scurry away in search of another place to try to make it to second base.
I pull Ninja into the dark spot they just vacated. Tilting her chin up to look at me, I ask, “Why are you so fucking stubborn?”
“I’m not stubborn. I just know what I want and what I don’t.” Her voice is tender but stern, as if trying to convince herself of her own words.
“Little Ninja, you and I are so similar, but you don’t even see it, do you?” I slide my hand down to her waist. She doesn’t move or protest. I move it lower to her mid-thigh, just below the hem of her skirt. Her smooth, bare skin is warm against my hand. She shudders but tries to cover her reaction by shifting from her left to her right foot.
