I t had been a busy morning at The First Look Bridal Shop: Shona hired another seamstress and two more sales consultants, then had an appointment with Felicity and a bride who wanted a showstopper dress.

Discussing the details and coming up with a concept that delighted the bride had taken longer than Shona expected and, once they left, she was relieved to have a moment to catch her breath.

She went to her design studio at the back of the shop and sat down, rubbing her temples.

‘It can’t be that bad,’ Sen said, approaching her.

She groaned. He leaned down and planted a kiss on her lips. They’d been officially dating for five months. Nothing had really changed in their relationship except that everyone knew they were in one, including them.

Sen sat down. ‘Do you have your order book with you?’

Shona pointed to the diary on the desk. It was the first time that Sen had asked to see her book. It was odd, but she didn’t have the energy to ask why.

‘I need to order a bridal outfit,’ he said.

That got Shona’s attention.

He paged through her diary and picked a date three months from then.

‘Who are you ordering a bridal outfit for?’

Sen didn’t look up.

He pulled out a pen from his pocket and wrote her name under his chosen date. He put the pen back in his pocket and sat back.

‘That day at the lake when we had the picnic, you asked me if I would be ordering my wife’s dress from your shop…’

Shona clicked her tongue. ‘I must have been around 11years old, Sen.’

He smiled widely. ‘You still don’t get it?’

She shook her head. ‘Get what?’

‘I just ordered my wife’s bridal outfit from you, Shona,’ he said.

Still confused, Shona pulled the diary across the table and looked at the date and her name under it.

She looked up to find Sen holding out an engagement ring.

‘A little slow on the uptake, babe,’ he said.

She laughed at the word babe.

‘So, will you marry me?’

Shona jumped up and flung her arms around him.

He pulled her to his lap.

‘Yes?’

‘Yes,’ she said and hugged him tightly.

‘I hope I’m not signing up for a lifetime of nuggets,’ he teased.

She playfully punched him on the shoulder.

‘Senthil, let’s be complicated together,’ she said.

He tenderly cradled the back of her head in his hand, drew her to him and kissed her.
