“So do I.”
“I’ve noticed. This new version of you…the bossy-in-charge one. I think I might like it.”
“You might need it.”
Her eyes flick up to mine then, a sudden awareness in them and her hands go to my chest as she comes closer to me. Her lashes fluttering as her gaze lowers to my lips.
“Fairly certain touching violates the bet.” I glance down at where she’s touching me, her palms sliding over my chest.
“No touching rule then?” She pulls her hands back.
“Seems like that would be safer.” I shrug, pretending to be nonchalant. Because if this woman touches me, I’m in danger. I have to build up endurance when it comes to her. Take her in slow doses. Because otherwise, I’m grabbing her and throwing her up against walls like some kind of depraved monster, desperate to fuck her into oblivion and show her how much she misses me.
“Seems like you’re worried about your chances. Worried you might need me again. But I’ll allow it.”
“If either of us should be worried, it’s you.” I grin at her and her eyes flash to mine, fluttering a little before she turns away to look at the expanse of blue water and sea life beyond the glass.
“We’ll see, Farm Boy.”

I’m definitely worried. He’s all I can think about lately, and my mind is whirring with all the possibilities of what having the grown-up version of him could be like. Having him grab my hair and put me on my knees like he threatened earlier. Having him take me any and every single way he wants me. I would let Colt have almost anything.
I just can’t have this turning into a mess again. Another situation where we can’t stand to see each other, and Ben and Violet are trying to run damage control between the two of us. Where I spend years away from him because I can’t handle seeing his face again.
His eyes search mine like he knows I’m doing the math.
“So we’re getting along and learning to be friends again?” I ask, studying his deep blue gaze in return.
“I mean, I’ll also kind of be your boss if I’m on the board.”
“You’re getting ahead of yourself.”
“You said yourself, getting someone like me on the board would be like landing a unicorn.”
“Is this your way of getting out of the photos? Because we still need them for the book.”
“I told you. You do the photos. I’ll do the photos. You can come to my house after the game this weekend and we can get them done.”
“Why are you being agreeable all of the sudden?” I raise a brow at him.
“Because I remember how much I like hearing you whimper my name and the sooner I get you to cave, the better.” A wry smile crosses his lips, and I want to kiss it off of him so badly.
“Who are you, and where’s the sweet farm boy?”
“You only get him if you’re really good.”
“You’re already fighting dirty.” I glare at him.
“Good. Now turn around and look at the water again.”
I raise an eyebrow.
“Turn around,” he repeats.
I do as he asks, and he leans over me, placing a hand on the wall over my shoulder as he leans in closer to whisper in my ear.
