Page 25 of Octavious
I’m driving as quickly as I can back to the lodge after leaving everyone at the Baros location. I’m prepared for the worst.
There are a bunch of emergency lights lighting up the road as I approach the white SUV I dropped off before leaving to go to Baros’ house. My gut churns in my stomach.
Something happened to Vera!
I speed through the cars and see Octavious yelling at an ambulance driver. “I want to see my woman! Let me through.”
The ambulance driver, George, is glowering at me. I have known George my whole life since we grew up in the same foster home. He’s the man I would have called if I knew something bad was happening. I’m glad he’s here.
George has stated he doesn’t have any interest in joining the family, and I’m okay with it.
“Milo, you need to get your boy!”
Octavious turns his eyes to me. “She’s dead! I know she’s dead.”
I shake my head and run over to him. “George, is Vera alive?”
George’s eyes glare at me.
Fuck.
