Tessa returned. “So are we still on for a late dinner?”
I met her gaze and realized my headache was already feeling better. “Yes.”
She smiled. “Then I’ll see you in about an hour, Mr. Langston.”
Chapter19
Tessa
It was silly to feel nervous. I kept my head down as I headed down the hall to the penthouse. After finishing my shift in the bar, I’d showered in the staff locker room. I was wearing a cute, knee-length, flippy, black skirt and a pretty silver-green top that slid off one shoulder. My hair was loose, and I was wearing my sexiest, sheerest set of black lingerie.
I knocked on the door.
It opened, and there he was. My heart did a little shimmy. He was still in his suit pants and white shirt from earlier, but his jacket and shoes were gone. His bare feet looked sexy, as did the rolled-up sleeves of his shirt.
Ambrose Langston had really great forearms.
I studied his face, then smiled. “Your headache’s gone.”
“Thanks to you.” He tugged me inside. “Your magic drink did the trick.”
“More likely the medication.” I glanced around. “I hope you didn’t come up here and do more work.”
“No.” He motioned to the whiskey glass on the entry table. He had music on low. “I’ve been doing…nothing.”
I grinned. He sounded proud of himself. “Good for you. Windward is rubbing off on you. And you didn’t explode or melt or anything.”
“No, smartass.” He nudged me farther inside with a hand to my lower back. “Now, dinner just got delivered. I hope you’re hungry.”
I was. I saw the covered plates on the coffee table.
“We’ve got fresh bread and olives, medium-rare rib eye with a bordelaise sauce, and local rainbow trout with a lemon and caper sauce.”
“Rainbow trout is my favorite. How did you know?”
“I have my sources as well, Ms. Ashford.”
I snorted. “Caden found out for you.”
A flash of a smile. “Yes. So, how was your day?”
“Fine. There were no falling chandeliers or loose railings.”
His face turned serious and he grabbed my arm. “It’s all going to be okay.”
“I know, Ro, I just worry.”
“I don’t want you to worry.” He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. “So, you said you were hungry…”
I looked at him. His hair was ruffled like he’d been running his hands through it. The top buttons of his shirt were undone, showcasing a strong throat and a triangle of tantalizing bronze skin.
“I am.” But suddenly I wasn’t hungry for food.
I jumped him.
As I threw myself at him, his eyes flashed. He caught me, then our mouths slammed together. As we kissed, I slid my hands into his hair, while his hands cupped my butt.
I moaned. He tasted so good and need exploded inside me.
