And now maybe she would have time to get out.
CHAPTER SEVENTY-EIGHT
SHE WAS EXACTLYwhere I wanted her.
Back in my room. Back under my roof. Back with me.
Lucy sat on the edge of my bed, breathing hard, her hands clenched into fists like she was ready to fight me all over again. Feisty as ever. Goddamn, I’d missed this. Missed her. Even when she was fighting me tooth and nail, even when she was looking at me like she wanted to kill me.
She didn’t realize it yet, but she belonged to me.
I leaned against the door, arms crossed. “Ain’t much of a rescue, love,” I drawled, smirking. “Damn shame. You came all this way just to end up in my bed.”
Lucy’s glare was meant to intimidate, but I found it sexy as fuck. “Let me go, Fang.”
I chuckled, slow and deliberate. “Now, why the hell would I do that?”
She surged to her feet, fast, trying to rush past me. Wrong move. I grabbed her wrist, yanking her back before she even made it two steps. She swung at me—even worse move.
I caught her other hand mid-air, twisting her against me, locking her arms behind her back. Her breath was hot against my neck as she struggled. Fuck, she still felt good in my arms.
“Fight me,” I murmured, my lips close to her ear. “You know how much I crave it.”
Her breath hitched, and for half a second, she stilled.
Then—pain.
Sharp and sudden as she stomped down hard on my boot. I cursed, loosening my grip just enough for her to twist free, putting the bed between us.
Lucy’s chest heaved as she glared at me, daring me to come closer.
“You can keep me here, Fang,” she spat, fury flashing in her blue eyes, “but you’ll never have me.”
I licked my bottom lip, tasting the edge of a challenge. “That so?”
She was shaking, but it wasn’t fear. It was rage. Hatred. Defiance. I should’ve been pissed—should’ve been ready to put her back in her place.
Instead, I just felt fucking exhilarated.
“Thing is, love,” I said, stepping forward, making her back up toward the wall, “I don’t need you to love me. I just need you to get used to bein’ with me. And I got all the time in the world to make that happen.”
Her jaw clenched. “You don’t own me.”
I let out a low chuckle. “No? Then why’s your heart poundin’ so hard?”
Her nostrils flared. She hated me. She hated that I might be right. That Spinner couldn’t even begin to know how to handle a hot headed bitch like her.
I reached for her again, but…
BANG.
The door rattled under the force of a fist. Drago’s voice boomed through the wood. “Fang! Get your ass out here! Now!”
Lucy sucked in a breath, eyes darting to the door. I swore under my breath. Fucking timing. I turned my head toward the door, but not before catching the way hope sparked in her gaze. “Oh no, love. This ain’t over.” I shot her a warning glance. “Don’t fuckin’ move unless you want Drago to kill you.”
Then I yanked the door open, stepping into the hallway.
Drago stood there, his face thunderous. “Devil’s House has been spotted in town.”
