He sighed aloud; he should turn around and walk away.
Everett shifted, making a small hum in the back of his throat, and slowly his eyes opened. Those vivid blue eyes locked on Archie and as they focused, a smile blossomed across Everett’s face.
Damn it. Whenever Archie was anywhere near Everett that cliff didn’t just get closer, it became more damn appealing.
“Archie,” Everett whispered.
And with that one word, that one smile, Archie’s resolve collapsed into a pile of dust.
Everett’s eyes roamed over Archie’s face, drinking in the details and mapping every line and angle. The smile slid from his face as his gaze landed on the nasty wound at his temple, which was already bruising at the edges.
“You’re hurt.” Ev sat up, the sheet spilling to his waist and revealing more of his naked skin as he reached for Archie’s face. Cupping it gently in his warm palms, he tilted Archie’s head so he could get a closer look at the damage. “What happened?”
Archie drew in another breath, trying to focus on not looking at Ev’s smooth chest and the soft pink of his pebbled nipples.
“How much do you remember about last night?”
Ev’s mouth tightened. “More than I’d like to,” he admitted. “I remember waking up in Edmund Baxter’s laboratory strapped to the table. He…” Ev frowned. “Was it real?” He looked to Archie to read the truth in his dark eyes. “Did he really change into that monster?”
Archie stared at Ev, knowing he couldn’t lie to him. Slowly, he nodded, and Ev released a heavy breath.
“I thought I’d dreamed it,” he whispered.
“No, it was real,” Archie said quietly. “He was convinced he could create a serum to reverse the damage done to his spine and legs caused by polio.”
“I know,” Ev replied. “He told me.”
“He… what?”
“He seemed awfully determined to explain why he was about to slice me up.” Ev gave a sick little chuckle. “Mostly, I remember you,” Ev murmured, his eyes softening. “You held me, protected me.”
Unable to help himself, Archie lifted his hand and stroked Ev’s cheek. He tenderly traced the line of his jaw and noticed the small frown suddenly marring Ev’s brow.
“There were others.” Ev looked as if he were trying to piece together fragments of memory from that horrific night. “I was slipping in and out of consciousness, but I heard voices and a name… Elias?”
Archie nodded “Yes, there were others.” It seemed it wasn’t just himself and Shaw who knew the truth about what happened in that hidden room.
“What happened, Archie?” Ev frowned in worry. “Where is Edmund now? Did he change back? Has he been arrested?”
Archie shook his head, knowing he would tell Everett the truth about all of it but not tonight. “He’s gone.” Archie’s thumb stroked his cheek as he cupped his jaw. “I won’t let him harm you again, ever.”
“You seem to be making a habit of saving me.” Ev smiled slowly, placing his hand over the top of Archie’s.
“Everett.”
“Ev… say it… please.” He closed his eyes.
“Ev,” Archie breathed.
Ev pulled back as Archie’s hand released his face. They stared at each other for a long moment before Ev drew his legs beneath himself, rising onto his knees on the bed in front of Archie. The sheet slid away to reveal his nakedness in its entirety. Archie sucked in a sharp breath, trying not to look.
“Archie,” Ev commanded softly. “Look at me.”
Archie was helpless to resist. His gaze drifted down from Ev’s cornflower-blue gaze and beautiful face, over his smooth chest and pale pink nipples, past his flat stomach to his long slim cock surrounded by pale hair.
Archie’s heart began to pound, so loudly he could hear it in his ears. His breathing was rapid and his mouth ran dry as he watched that gorgeous prick begin to plump up under his intense gaze. He’d never wanted anything so much in his entire life.
He lifted his gaze to Ev’s, swallowing hard, and when he spoke, his voice was barely more than a hoarse whisper ripe with need. “I want to touch you so badly.”
