Chapter Twenty-Three

Luca

G ood riddance.

I stare at Isa as she sits awkwardly with this bastardo in the corner of the café. There’s no laughter this time. Good.

I can’t zoom the café’s camera in on her without drawing attention, but I don’t need to. It’s like I have tunnel vision, seeing only her.

I let you have your little taste of normal, farfalla .

I let you smile for someone else.

Let them think they can have you. Let them try.

But they never will.

You’re mine, Isa.

I’m always there with you. Don’t mistake my silence for absence.

I swear it won’t be long now.

You are mine alone.

My heart beats only for you, and I know yours still beats for me.

I’m a part of your soul, bound to you as you are to me. No time, no distance will ever sever that.

No matter who sits across from you, Isa, it’s me you belong to. It’s always me.

The ringing of my phone makes me turn away from the monitors. I get up to get it, content I’ve accomplished what I set out to do.

Now, my butterfly just needs to be a good girl a little longer, until I make her mine again.
