Nate

W e're celebrating our one-year anniversary. Between Lin, Brynn and Mrs. Adams, I think they went way overboard in planning our anniversary party. This party is bigger than our actual wedding was, but Harper has the biggest smile on her face, so that makes it all worth it.

There's a professional photographer taking pictures of us with friends and family. Right now, the photographer is getting a picture of one of the biggest dessert tables I've ever seen. I think that was more Brynn's doing with her being pregnant and craving all sweets.

Everyone from my old job with James is here, all the people that were there to rescue Harper that day, along with my sister and her husband and her husband's family.

There's a dance floor and a DJ playing music. And every time he plays something slow, Harper pulls me onto the dance floor. I'm not a big dancer, but I don't mind.

Harper has fit in so seamlessly here. She helps Lin and Brynn with their inns as needed. After our wedding, she started helping Mrs. Adams do some party planning around town because everyone was thrilled with the decor and how quickly it was put together.

So far they have done three baby showers, two weddings, a grand opening, an engagement party, a bridal shower, and believe it or not, a funeral where they were not allowed to use the color black.

As sad as it is to lose someone, that was probably my most fun to watch her plan because it completely threw her and Mrs. Adams for a loop.

I can't tell you how many times I heard, "how are we supposed to not use black at a funeral?" or something along the lines of "yellow is too bright of a color for a funeral maybe do gold instead."

As the party winds down, she looks up at me with nothing but love on her face.

"I got us the suite at the Sunrise Inn for the night. What do you say we let everyone here have their fun and go enjoy some quiet time?" she asks.

Nothing sounds better than a night with my wife in a beautiful suite, and able to watch the sunrise over the most amazing view? Count me in.

We say our goodbyes to everyone and before long we're on our way to the Inn.

The moment we walk through the door, I turn and pin her to it kissing her deeply.

"Nate!" She giggles and slips out of my arms heading towards the bed.

It was then I noticed all the items on the bed. Walking over to see what they are, I stop dead in my tracks. In the middle of the bed in a plastic bag are two positive pregnancy tests. Sitting beside it are baby clothes, and a book titled What to Expect When Your Wife is Expecting .

"You're pregnant?" I ask in disbelief.

When I turn to look at her, she is smiling.

"Yes, I found out this morning and thought it would be a good surprise. The suite and all was Lin's idea. I had to use her pregnancy tests so the whole town didn't know before you," she explains.

She's not wrong. If she had walked into the store this morning and bought pregnancy tests, everybody would have known by noon and it's all anyone would have been talking about tonight.

Glancing at the clock, I see it's almost midnight.

"Guess I better hurry up if I'd like to make love to my wife on our anniversary." I say, leading her toward the couch.

What a difference a year makes. When I took that assignment in Washington, North Carolina, I never thought that I'd walk away with a wife. I certainly was never expecting Harper.

Now I'm never expecting to live a moment of my life without her.
