“I have. Great work, Jamie. I am so very proud.”

Her granddaughter settled in one of the chairs in front of Victoria’s desk. “I had a feeling about this one.”

“Always trust your instincts,” Victoria agreed.

“I understand Jack has decided to take some vacation time.” Jamie’s eyes twinkled.

Victoria nodded. “He has. He’s been such a workaholic for years. I’m so glad he finally found the time.” Or the right reason, she mused.

“I’ll never tire of these happy endings,” Jamie enthused.

Her granddaughter was so like her. This made Victoria inordinately happy.

Jamie folded her paper and laid it aside. “Grandmother, you and Grandpa should take a vacation too. Get out of the city and enjoy yourselves. No one works harder than the two of you. We can handle things here for a few weeks.”

“A few weeks?” she repeated with raised eyebrows. How could she possibly agree to such a schedule?

Jamie inclined her head. “Two or three, I mean. It would do you both good.”

Victoria’s gaze narrowed. “Did your grandpa put you up to this?”

“Perhaps.” Jamie grinned. “Just say yes. He has a big surprise waiting for you.”

Victoria loved surprises, especially from Lucas. “Well, I suppose a little time off won’t hurt.”

Jamie shot to her feet. “Excellent. I’ll schedule a staff meeting so you can tell the others.”

Before she could say a word her granddaughter was off and running.

As much as Victoria always looked forward to the agency’s next big case, she couldn’t wait to spend some well-deserved time relaxing with Lucas, the man she loved with every part of her being.
