Page 17 of Meet Me at Sunset Cove (Jonathon Island #5)
Chapter Seven
A view of Jonathon Island’s Main Street fills the screen, panning from the picturesque lake to Good Day Coffee before transitioning to a shot of Daisy as she steps onto the screen.
“Hi, friends! Daisy here.” She smiles into the camera, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
She is wearing her standard uniform: a white T-shirt under a bright set of lavender overalls with a daisy on the front pocket.
Her hair is pulled into a high pony, a few long strands framing her face.
“I’m here in the world’s cutest little small town, Jonathon Island. And I have some exciting news!”
She steps back and the camera cuts to a wide shot of the Barrett house in the late afternoon light, flashing a montage of detail shots of the door, the stairs, the porch, before cutting back.
“You guessed it! This stunning Queen Anne-style Victorian is going to be the very first project on my new show, House to Home .” She moves toward the house, the camera following her as she stops beside the front steps. “And I’m not doing it alone!”
Daisy gestures off camera once, twice, and then finally reaches out of screen, dragging back a reluctant Hunter a moment later. “This is Hunter, he’s a design professional with tons of experience, and we’re teaming up for this special project.”
She glances expectantly at Hunter, who gives a solemn nod.
Turning back to the camera as though Hunter has just given the world’s most engaging speech, Daisy continues, “So let’s get started…”

Episode 2: Porch Perfect, Uploaded (October 3rd)
The camera pans over the now slightly less wild front lawn of the Barrett house, the foliage having been recently cut back.
Daisy and Hunter can be seen seated on a picnic blanket surrounded by sketches and fabric swatches.
Daisy, now in pink overalls, sits with her legs folded, her sweater discarded on the warm day, a piece of paper in her hand, and a carpenter’s pencil behind her ear.
Hunter sits beside her, leaning back with an elbow on his knee.
“When tackling a renovation project, it’s crucial to start with a strong foundation. For us, that means beginning with the porch and staircase—the first things you see when approaching the house,” Daisy’s voice says over the footage.
Hunter leans closer, his shoulder brushing hers as he points to something on the page.
Daisy’s voiceover continues, “Now that we’ve got a plan for the outside of the house, Hunter can get started ordering supplies and pulling a permit so we can tear up the decking on the porch and replace the turned columns, which are no longer structurally sound, with more modern, but still timeless, rounded double columns. ”
The camera cuts to a shot of Daisy walking up the interior staircase, her hands gliding expressively over the banister, as Hunter follows, a few steps below. “I think we need to do something really special with this banister, something that will really draw the eye up.”
She turns to face him and slips, her foot catching on one of the carpeted treads. She reaches for the banister, teetering backward with a small gasp.
Hunter moves forward, his hands wrapping around her waist as he steadies her.
For a moment, they are both frozen, Daisy’s hands clutching his shoulders, her eyes wide with shock…or…
“Careful,” Hunter murmurs, stepping back.
The voiceover resumes, “Boy am I glad to have that guy around…”
Comments:
@BookwormBarista: Did…did this just become a romance novel?
@DIYDreamer: The way he caught her! *Swoon*
@Kimmiwiththekats: Be right back, sending to my husband so I can conveniently fall down the stairs later.
@User8978: Love the double column idea.

Episode 3: Just call me Demo Daisy, Uploaded (October 10th)
The camera cuts to a shot of Hunter and Daisy, standing together in the grass, looking at a blueprint, as Daisy points at something on the house.
Her voice fills the scene, “You know I always love to hit the ground running. That’s what a solid plan is all about.
And thankfully, that’s exactly what we will be able to do after Hunter makes a few calls and gets our permit expedited.
Turns out, the town revitalization council is just as excited to see this house come back to life as we are!
And not a moment too soon, because we only have a few weeks before snow falls. ”
“Thanks to Hunter’s local connections, we are also able to get our supplies lined up crazy fast. So don’t expect this kind of timeline at home, folks.
” The shot pans to the road just as two horses crest the hill, a large wagon filled with lumber and supplies tugging along behind them.
The camera zeros in on the rugged man leading the team of horses.
“And if you think you recognize our delivery guy, you’re right.
That’s Asher Quinn, or as you might know him, Eli Noble, famed musician… and also, apparently, horse guy.”
The shot transitions with a time-lapse as the sun sets behind the house and rises again on the horizon before cutting to Hunter, leaned up against the porch, his sleeves rolled up despite the autumn evening air, a sledgehammer in his hands.
Two steps up the landing behind him, Waylen sits with a crowbar across his knees.
Daisy steps into the shot. “Finally, it’s demo day here at the house!
” She lifts her arms, revealing another sledgehammer, this one in her own gloved hands.
She backpedals, joining her team by the stairs.
“As you know, Hunter and I have been working almost around the clock to get the porch done before it gets too cold. So Hunter brought along his brother today to help us out.”
She turns and Waylen waves at the camera.
“Feel free to swoon, ladies,” he says with a cheeky grin. “Unlike my brother here, I’m on the market.”
Hunter’s cheeks redden slightly, and he clears his throat, running a hand over the back of his neck.
“And with that burning question out of the way,” Daisy cuts in, a hint of sarcasm to her voice, “let’s get to work!”

Episode 4: Just a couple weekend warriors, Uploaded (October 17th)
The episode opens with Daisy, sporting a set of burnt-orange corduroy overalls, her hair in a floppy bun on the top of her head.
She sits on a pile of lumber, a hammer in one hand and leaning back on the other.
Hunter stands in front of the pile, leaning back with a quirked smile on his lips as though they’ve just been sharing a laugh moments before the camera is rolling.
“Hey, fam! Daisy and Hunter here, and we want to start this episode off with a HUGE thank you for all the love and support the channel has been getting these past few weeks.” She glances at her partner who nods in agreement. “We still have a lot of work to do, but first, let’s get you caught up!”
The camera cuts to a shot of the bare bones of the porch, the decking removed and discarded into a pile on the grass.
Daisy’s voiceover starts just as a team of men arrives, with Hunter in the lead as they begin rebuilding.
“What a crazy weekend! We made some incredible progress on the porch, thanks to some extra helping hands. Hunter was able to wrangle a few of his friends down at Barrett Construction into helping us for the weekend.”
A montage of shots fills the screen, showing different angles of work being done. Daisy can be seen among them with a nail gun in her hand.
The scene transitions to a time-lapse shot of the porch columns being removed, the workers moving in fast-forward as they lift, place, and secure the new columns, placing two side by side, where each one had been.
The scene ends and Daisy and Hunter fill the screen, sitting on the top step of the newly finished, yet still unpainted porch. The evening light casts blue shadows over their faces, the gold of the sun still dimly lighting the scene.
Hunter turns toward his costar, a quiet breath rising and falling in his chest. “You were right,” he says.
Daisy gives him a coy look. “Oh really?”
His gaze drops to her lips for just a breath. “Really.”
“About what?” She laughs.
He gestures toward the columns. “I was a skeptic.”
“As usual,” she chimes.
“But they look nice.”
The shot pulls back to show the two of them, shoulders brushing, under the setting-sun sky.
Upload Complete.
* * *
Daisy slumped back at her desk, her shoulders sore from two weeks of nonstop work.
Each day had been filled from sunup to sundown.
Every morning, Daisy woke to a laundry list of items: post socials, upload all footage from the previous evening and send them to Robin to edit, make a run to the mainland for building supplies, return in time to meet Hunter after work, work until the sun went down, wait for Robin to send her the edited video, post it. Sleep. Repeat.
But even with the seemingly endless cycle, she would rise and do it all again. Because the result was an overwhelming success. And every day, their subscriber count grew exponentially. People loved the show. They loved Hunter. They loved her.
And best of all, they’d overwhelmingly stopped asking about Logan.
Daisy had tried her best not to check up on Logan’s socials.
But she was only human. She’d spotted a few self-congratulatory posts referencing another good year for Double Decker .
The posts had showed him alone, beside the last project they’d worked together, Logan holding a hammer.
It was laughable. He’d become less and less involved in the actual renovation every season since they’d started. And there he was, taking the credit.
No, Daisy was better off not knowing. She’d keep her head down and come out ahead.
Her phone vibrated and Daisy picked it up quickly, half hoping to see Hunter’s name on the caller ID.
