Page 43 of Marcellus: House of Drakos
Alex and Kari had showered together and were laying side by side in bed.
Kari was on the phone with Jordan, who said everybody was fine in Philly.
But Alex ordered him to put Mick Sinatra on the line to confirm it.
It was Mick’s home the children were visiting when Mick’s daughter and Oz’s wife Gloria asked if they could go to Philly with her, and he needed to hear from the man himself that all was well.
Especially since he doubted if Oz had bothered to do so.
It was only when Mick got on the line and confirmed that everybody was fine did Alex relax. After a brief conversation (nobody talked on and on with Mick the Tick, not even Alex Drakos), Kari ended the call.
“How does it feel to be lying in bed in your brother’s house?”
“Strange as hell,” Alex said and they both laughed. “It’s going to take a lot of getting used to,” he added.
“He loves his children,” said Kari. “For some reason I didn’t expect that.”
“Neither did I. Every press report I ever read about the man, and I think I’ve read all of them down through the years, said that he was this careless, free spirit playboy who didn’t want any commitments, not even to his children. I thought what a selfish bastard he was. I was wrong.”
Kari nodded. “I agree. He’s extra, that’s for sure, and you can tell he has a fiery temper on him, but he’s not the ogre the press made him out to be. Which is a good thing. He loves his children.”
“And his baby mothers,” Alex added.
“At least one of them for sure. You saw him pick her up and take her to that bedroom and close the door with Savannah standing right there?”
“I saw it, but that woman was overcome with anguish. She needed him.”
“Yeah, but she’s no shrinking violet. She can take care of herself. And even if he carried her to bed, he didn’t have to stay in the room with her.” Kari shook her head. “That’s asking a lot of Savannah.”
“If anybody can handle it,” said Alex, “she can. She’s a tough lady.”
“She ain’t all that tough,” said Kari. “She loves his ass and is putting up with it. But it’s hard on her, trust and believe. The only reason she hasn’t bounced on his ass is because she figure he’s worth it.”
Alex looked at Kari. “He is a very attractive man, isn’t he?”
Kari smiled. “Let’s put it this way: He could give Tommy Gabrini a run for his money.”
“I wouldn’t go that far,” Alex said to her.
“I would. And I’m a woman so I know.”
Alex smiled. “I guess you’re right. But as tough as Savannah appears, she’s sweet too.”
Kari nodded. “I agree.”
“I hope he doesn’t break her heart.”
Kari looked at Alex. “Why would you even think something like that?”
But Alex didn’t say why, and Kari didn’t push it.
“Turn over,” he said to her as he laid on his side facing her.
Kari decided to play with him. “Turn over? To do what?”
“You know what.”
She motioned as if she was clutching her pearls. “In a stranger’s house?”
“He’s not a stranger. He’s my brother.”
“Oh he’s your brother now?”
Alex smiled. “Just turn your ass over.”
Kari smiled, too, as she turned her back to his front.
And after fingering her for several minutes, priming that pump he couldn’t wait to smash, he entered her from behind.
