Story: Loving A Stranger
**Cass's Struggle**
I sit in the quiet of my dorm room hours after everyone else has retired.
The gentle light of a single desk lamp illuminates my journal, and I struggle to find words for the weight of what I've been feeling. My hand trembles slightly as I scribble down things I hardly dare to speak out loud. Every day, I watch Mina change—feel her strength growing, her healing ability developing—but I still haven't had the right moment to tell it all to her.
The moment never seems right, and the secret to our supernatural heritage remains locked behind doors of fear and uncertainty.
I write:
Mina's transformation is a beautiful and terrifying thing. When I look at her, I feel this madness to tell her the truth, that her healing gift is not an anomaly—it's our destiny.
But what if I overwhelm her?
What if telling her the truth throws off the precarious equilibrium she's fighting to maintain?
I close the diary, the burden of things left unspoken weighing on me. I glance at the door, half-expecting Mina to materialize, but it remains quiet. I find myself wondering if being too available, too quickly, will push her away, not draw her near.
I rub my face in frustration with myself.
I know as her friend—and later, maybe something more—I have to be honest with her.
But each time I see her radiant smile or the twinkle in her eyes at the thrill of her newfound skills, I'm reminded that there are some truths best left for another time. A time that could never come if I keep quiet.
The Alpha and Frigg
Across the campus, in a hidden alcove of an ancient, crumbling building, the Lycan Alpha stands before Frigg. The room is lit only by flickering candles and the cold, ethereal glow of ancient magic. The air is charged with the weight of secrets and centuries-old prophecies.
He paces slowly, his head reeling with conflicting ideas.
"Frigg," he begins, his voice low and tinged with weariness, "I have witnessed too much foreboding. The tensions on campus are mounting, and I can no longer hold back the feeling that something much more evil than we anticipated is on its way."
Frigg's shadowy eyes blink in suspicion as she looks at him. "The storm is coming on at a higher speed than we had expected," she replies coolly. "There are forces moving now that have only been hinted at by our ancient scriptures. You must be cautious—balance is thin, and everything you do can tip the balance.".
The response, The Alpha strokes a hand through his black hair, his eyes troubled.
"I want to protect Tasha, I do. But I fear that if I push too hard, that if I show her too much until the moment is just right, I'll scare her away. And the cost. I don't know if I can bear the risk of losing her to ruin."
Frigg steps forward, resting a hand on his arm, both firm and reassuring.
"You must have faith in fate, and in the prophecies that have held our people in good stead for so many generations. The day will come when the truth can no longer be hidden, and when you will be forced to act boldly. Until that time, you will be forced to be patient—even if it means enduring your own personal suffering."
He closes his eyes for a moment, considering her words. "I understand. But I fear that waiting would cost us too much of which I don't wish to lose. Each moment of silence passing, each furtive stolen glance away from Tasha... eats at me."
Frigg's eyes soften slightly. \"The sacrifices we make today are not in vain. The storm is building, and only by weathering it together can we hope to restore balance. Steel yourself, Alpha. For soon all will be dragged into the light."
He nods slowly, determination intermixed with the sorrow in his eyes. "I will," he promises softly, though his words fall on the soft crackle of candlelight.
### Tasha's Unease
That night, as the campus lapsed into a false calm, I stood by myself in the dim light of an deserted hall.
The echoes of the previous upsets still resonated in my ears, and I couldn't help but feel watched. Every shadow, every flicker of a light, sent shivers down my spine with a mix of fear and anticipation.
I leaned against a window, peering out over the darkened quad. In that shadowy area, I sensed a presence—a hidden energy that made me shiver. It was not just the residual energy of last night's aggression. It was something fresh, something that whispered of deeper secrets yet to arise.
I hugged my cardigan tighter around me and tried to steady my breathing, but my thoughts spun.
I remembered the mysterious warnings of Frigg, the dark words that had foretold a storm and a fate about to be decided.
I could not help but wonder what this decision would be.
Whenever I attempted to concentrate on the mundane—a routine stroll between classes, a peaceful cup of coffee in the morning—the supernatural tension pulled at me, reminding me that nothing would ever be the same again.
A distant hum from the corridor made me turn around, but nothing was there. Just the empty corridor and my own whirling thoughts. I pressed my hand on the chilled glass, trying to ground myself in reality, but even that failed to still the nervousness in my heart.
I breathed silently to myself, "What do they all keep hidden?" Not just the secrets of the campus, but mine—the truth concerning who I really am, and who I was meant to be. The response was a riddle I still had to untangle.
Entwined Destinies
The university was a labyrinth of hidden agendas and whispered prophecies, and with the shadows deepening, the fibers of our lives began to intersect in ways I struggled to understand.
Cass's words stayed with me that morning, telling me to be truthful, as the unspoken resolve of the Lycan Alpha vibrated like a drumbeat at the edges. I could feel the pull of fate—a force that bound all of us together, even as we struggled to hide our true selves.
I couldn't help but think about Mina. I'd seen her change—the burst of healing energy that had rescued Tasha amidst the chaos of the ceremony—and I knew that her awakening was a key strand in the fabric we were all woven into.
But still, with all her new powers, she had the same doubt and fear that assailed me.
And Cass.
Cass watched over her with a zeal that both comforted and unsettled me.
I wished he would complain, tell her the reality of what was happening, but I knew the timing was not right.
As I walked back to my dorm, the outside campus was buzzing with soft conversations and flickering candles.
I knew the night was far from over, that the paranormal interferences were becoming more powerful.
I couldn't help but wonder if we all stood on the brink of a cliff—a precarious balance between order and disorder that could snap at any moment.
I stood in the silence of the hall, my heart burdened by the cross-currents of duty, longing, and terror.
The Lycan Alpha's unshakable determination, Cass's anguished silence, and my own frustration all blended into one frantic question: How much longer can we hold our secrets secret before the tempest strikes?
I closed my eyes, listening to the far-off throb of the campus like a living heartbeat.
Somewhere deep within me, I was aware that the day would come when we'd all be forced to confront the reality. The prophecy, the mate bonds, the supernatural power—all of them would remain secret no longer. I was a part of this web, whether I wanted to be or not.
As I opened my eyes, I could feel a determination building up inside me—a resolution to face whatever was to come, even if it was to topple the walls that had shielded us for so long. I jotted down a few hurried lines in my journal as I moved along:
It is the secrets we hold that will rescue us today, but they will come crashing down like a tidal wave. Our fates are entwined, and soon the hurricane will push us into reality. I can only pray that I am brave enough to stand in its wake.
That night, as the wind howled across the campus and dark clouds gathered on the horizon, I knew that life would never be the same anymore.
We were all caught in the web of an unavoidable collision—a moment when our secret existences would come face to face with the reality of the light.
And in that collision, the price of our silence would be revealed.
I took one last deep breath before going back in, the weight of the unknown crushing me.
Tomorrow, when the storm of destiny raged ever closer, we would be making choices that could not be undone.
And regardless of whether we were ready or not, the secrets and travails of our shared destinies would be made known.
