The following are short descriptions of characters, places, phrases, and words used in the book.

Alsari [Al-sar-e]: Small island kingdom of Talwyn, south of Valzerna. Famous for their berries.

Alyndra [ Uh-lin-druh]: Ice dragon. Kitsuki’s mother. Murdered by bandits, most likely at the behest of Arenthia out of jealousy.

Arenthia [Uh-rin-thee-uh]: War Power in the past. Mother of Kizoshi. Voluntarily moved to the Beyond Realm to be with Tatsuki after his death.

Arenvale [Aaron-vail]: Western kingdom of Talwyn. Satsuma’s Tower is located on the westernmost point.

Ariake [R-e-ah-kay]: Ruling dragon shifter clan of Valzerna.

Ascendants : Divine beings. They are managers who are responsible for the Powers. They are forbidden from entering the Living Realm.

Auramancer : Very rare mage type with the power to manipulate auras to heal others.

Auslin [Aw-slynn]: Human auramancer mage with the power to heal. Travels to the past through Fate’s Gate, where he goes by Vanra to protect his identity in the present.

Azra [As-ruh]: Death Inciter. Collects souls on behalf of the Death Power and guides them to the Beyond Realm.

Balsimi [Ball-sim-e]: Northern kingdom of Talwyn between Kunushi and Tozoko. Ruled by a griffin shifter.

Barlatan [Bar-luh-tah-n]: City. Capital of Zinnia.

Beyond Realm : Where souls go after they die to reside for eternity.

Bitris [Beh-tris]: Dragon shifter. Corporal in the Ariake army. Notorious flirt.

Blightmare Vale : The Beyond Realm’s Hell, which is divided into layers based on the gravity of an offense.

Borvik [Bore-vick]: City. Capital of Tozoko.

Caprina [Cuh-pree-nuh]: Dragon shifter. Jaega’s first mate. Killed during the Necromancer War, along with her two daughters.

Carinus [Car-uh-nus]: Griffin shifter. Fierce member of Valzerna’s army.

Claim of Conquest : The right of a victorious ruler to determine succession after defeating a monarch.

Corina [Core-ree-nuh]: Human wishmancer. Maseo’s mother. Died of old age.

Covran [Cuhv-ran]: City. Capital of Galinor.

Darsanti [Dar-san-tee]: City. Capital of Reflorna.

Death Power : Deity named Reiya who is responsible for the deaths of everyone in the Living Realm to send them to the Beyond Realm.

Deathward Constellation : A necromantic barrier of immense power, which creates an impenetrable shield around its focal point. Nothing living can pass through without dying and becoming enslaved to the will of the necromancer who controls the ward.

Divine Realm : Where Powers and other Divine beings reside.

Divine Weapon : Weapon from the Divine Realm. Only weapon with the power to cause permanent damage to shifters by negating their healing abilities.

Drayden [Drey-den]: Dragon shifter. Corporal in the Ariake army.

Elyenbell [Elle-yen-bell]: Kingdom of Talwyn bordering Galinor, Odatam, Shadron, and Zinnia.

Elzbieta [Elles-be-eh-tuh]: Rabbit shifter. Server at a tavern in Alsari. Looks out for Maseo.

Enchanter : Shifters with strong command of magic to enchant objects in the Valzerna castle.

Everlight Vale : The Beyond Realm’s Heaven, where souls reside for eternity upon their death.

Fate’s Gate : Ancient monument rumored to have the power to rewrite someone’s fate if they cross its threshold. Controlled by Fate Power Sophina.

Fate’s Gate Temple : Temple of human mages located on the outskirts of Tiora dedicated to the Fate Power Sophina and Knowledge Power Liros.

Fenalo [Fin-alo]: Wolf shifter. Nasume’s cousin. Maseo’s uncle. King of Reflorna.

Fersen Rohesia [Fair-sin?Row-hee-shuh]: Last unicorn shifter. Jaega’s mate. Head Enchanter.

Fordani [For-dawn-knee]: City. Capital of Alsari.

Galinor [Gal-eh-nor]: Kingdom of Talwyn between Elyenbell and Quintox. Ruled by snake shifter.

Grisden [Gris-den]: Dragon shifter. Jaega’s personal valet servant.

Gruya [Grew-yuh]: City. Capital of Mizujil.

Hagel [Hey-gull]: Spider shifter. Corporal in the Ariake army. Notorious for his terrible personality.

Halfling : Term used to describe someone who is half-human, half-shifter or someone who is half-human, half-Power.

Heat : The week someone’s pheromones are hyperactive to attract a mate.

Hibiki [Hee-bee-key]: Fire dragon spirit. Guardian of Auslin. Gifted to him by Kizoshi to protect him. One of Sophina’s Watchers.

Hollowed : A living person who has been corrupted by necromancy and become a shell of their former self.

Honvalden [Hon-vahl-din]: City. Capital of Laylan.

Imeyu [E-may-you]: Former Healing Power. Passed to the Beyond Realm. Auslin’s father.

Inciters : Divine beings. Have the ability to move between the Divine Realm and Living Realm. They are the minions who put things into motion to carry out the will of the Powers on people in the Living Realm.

Ishibiya [Ish-e-bee-yuh]: Lichen necromancer. Leader of the necromancers during the Necromancer War. Rumor has it he escaped death and is still hiding in western Kunushi as the last surviving necromancer.

Iston [Iss-ton]: Wolf shifter. Kindly head librarian of the Kunushi library who has served the Venrik pack for generations. Always treated Maseo like his own son.

Jaega [Jay-guh]: Dragon shifter. Kitaro’s beloved uncle. Head general of King Tatsuki’s army. Fersen’s mate.

Jetunia [Jeh-toon-e-uh]: City. Capital of Morven.

Junbe [June-bay]: Bear shifter. Member of Nasume’s army. Hates Maseo for turning him down.

Kalassandria [Cal-uh-sand-ree-uh]: Dragon shifter. Queen of Mizujil. Cousin of the Ariake clan. Mated to Naifar. Resides in Gruya.

Kalindi [Kuh-lynn-dee]: Town. Located in northwestern Kunushi.

Kalinia Incense : Incense made from the essence of flowers grown in the Kalindi area. Used by wishmancers at the Wish Power Temple.

Kio [Key-oh]: Half-dragon shifter, half-human. Auslin’s toxic ex-boyfriend. Half brother of King Kitsuki. Cheated with his ex-boyfriend Maseo.

Kisano [Key-sah-no]: Dragon shifter. King Tatsuki’s bookish son.

Kitaro [Key-ta-row]: Dragon shifter. Kitsuki’s name as a prince before ascending to the role of the second heir to the throne.

Kitsuki [Key-tsu-key]: Dragon shifter. King of Valzerna. Older half brother of Kio. Younger brother of Kisano, Kizoshi, and Mitsuki. Forms trinity bond with his fated mates Auslin and Maseo.

Kitsune [Key-sue-nay]: Mythical fox with nine tails that resides in the Divine Realm. Legendary magic abilities. None remain in the Living Realm.

Kizoshi [Key-zo-she]: Half-dragon shifter, half-Power. War Power. Only daughter of King Tatsuki and Arenthia. Primarily resides in the Divine Realm.

Knowing the Unknown : Book. Written by Liros. One of Sephen’s favorites.

Kunushi [Coo-new-she]: Northwestern kingdom of Talwyn. Ruled by King Nasume. Maseo’s homeland.

Laylan [Lay-lan]: Kingdom of Talwyn bordering Balsimi, Tozoko, and Zinnia.

Lichen [Lie-ken]: Skeleton reanimated with the soul of a dead person harvested by a necromancer.

Lirienne [Leer-e-en]: Owl shifter. The most skilled auramancer who serves in the Valzerna army.

Liros [Leer-ose]: Knowledge Power. Resides in Divine Realm. One of Kizoshi’s best friends. Has a special interest in Reskin and Sephen.

Macrinus [Mack-ri-noos]: Griffin shifter. King of Arenvale. Brother of Naifar.

Maseo [Mah-say-oh]: Half-wolf shifter, half-human. Son of Nasume and a wishmancer mage. Former partner of Kio. Banished from his Venrik pack.

Mayhems : Chaos agents in the Living Realm who defy the will of the Powers and cannot be controlled by them. They’re created when a foretold event fails to happen.

Milvlar [Mill-v-lar]: City. Capital of Quintox.

Mireya [Me-ray-uh]: Wish Power. Deity who grants wishes of those who worship her. Resides in the Divine Realm.

Mitsuki [Me-tsu-key]: Dragon shifter. Oldest son of King Tatsuki. Died gruesomely in a war four months after becoming king. Banished to the Blightmare Vale for bad behavior in the Beyond Realm.

Mizujil [Me-zoo-jill]: Southwestern kingdom of Talwyn. Ruled by King Kitsuki’s cousin, Queen Kalassandria.

Morven [More-vin]: Northwestern kingdom of Talwyn. Where Fersen is from originally.

Nasume [Nah-sue-may]: Wolf shifter. King of Kunushi. Obsessed with Kitsuki. Father of Maseo.

Necromancer : Mage with the power to manipulate dead souls. Forbidden to practice their death magic after the Necromancer War.

Necromancer Berries : Food. Poisoned berries.

Necromancer War : War in the distant past against the necromancers to stop them from using death magic in evil ways. Murdered all the unicorn shifters during that time except for Fersen. Only the leader of the necromancers is rumored to have survived.

Necrowings : Dead dragons who have been reanimated by a necromancer. Only their bones remain, held together by their glowing green soulflame.

Nevris [Nev-ris]: Lava dragon. Mitsuki’s mother. Killed by Tatsuki after making an attempt on his life. Banished to the Blightmare Vale for bad behavior in the Beyond Realm.

Norello [Nor-el-low]: City. Capital of Kunushi.

Odatam [Oh-dah-tah-m]: Central kingdom of Talwyn.

Order of the Order of Sacred Sigil : Ancient society of elite runemancers.

Orinth [Or-inth]: Human scholarmancer. Formed a trinity bond with Palimirno and Zenathir in the distant past. Died in pursuit of knowledge. Reunited with his mates in the Beyond Realm after his passing.

Palimirno [Pal-ih-meer-noh]: Fox shifter. Wardmancer who formed a trinity bond with Orinth and Zenathir in the distant past. Voluntarily moved to the Beyond Realm to be with his mates after Orinth’s passing.

Petar [Peh-tar]: City. Capital of Arenvale.

Phaedra Falaris [Fae-druh?Fuh-lair-iss]: Variform shifter. Ruthless mercenary assassin. Ex-fiancée of Maseo.

Powers : Divine beings. Deities who control everything in the Living Realm.

Quintox [Quinn-tocks]: Southeastern kingdom of Talwyn.

Reflorna [Reh-floor-nah]: Central kingdom of Talwyn bordering Arenvale, Balsimi, Kunushi, Morven, Odatam, and Zinnia.

Reiya [Knock-treece]: Death Power. Deity who decides when people in the Living Realm die. Resides in the Divine Realm but also controls the Beyond Realm.

Reskin [Reh-skin]: Famous shifter philosopher. Auslin and Sephen’s favorite author.

Rethus [Ree-thus]: Wolf shifter. General in Nasume’s army. Corrupted by necromancy.

Runemancers : Mage with the power to manipulate runes to wield many forms of magic. Hunted to extinction by necromancers during the Necromancer War.

Rylan Norkon [Rye-lan?Nor-con]: Crow shifter. Lieutenant in Valzerna’s army. Spy King Kitsuki tasked with finding Maseo.

Santhia [San-thee-uh]: Rabbit shifter. Healer in the Valzerna army.

Scholarmancer : Mage with the power to uncover hidden truths or lost knowledge, decipher codes, or unlock hidden information.

Sephen [Seh-fin]: Human. Auslin’s younger brother. Acolyte who worships Knowledge Power Liros. Obsessed with reading Reskin.

Shadowfall Vale : The Beyond Realm’s Purgatory, where souls are trapped between Everlight Vale and Blightmare Vale.

Shadowmancer : Mage with the power to manipulate shadows.

Shadron [Shad-ron]: Southwestern kingdom of Talwyn. Ruled by scorpion shifter King Balbinus.

Shaleia [Shuh-lee-uh]: Half-spider shifter, half-Power. Destiny Power. Forbidden from leaving the Divine Realm. Sophina’s twin.

Shikiji [She-key-gee]: Cloud owl spirit. Guardian of Liros.

Sophina [So-fee-nuh]: Half-spider shifter, half-Power. Fate Power. Forbidden from leaving the Divine Realm. Shaleia’s twin. Controls Fate’s Gate. One of Kizoshi’s best friends.

Soseki [So-seh-key]: Wolf shifter. King of Kunushi in the past. Father of Nasume. Maseo’s grandfather. Passed to the Beyond Realm when Maseo was young.

Soulcages : Used by necromancers to extract souls from anyone who makes direct contact with it. Can be embedded in deathwards to power them.

Soulflame : The spiritual fire that represents a being’s soul. It burns with the color of their aura. Once extinguished, the soul is delivered to the Beyond Realm.

Soulkeeper : Beyond beings. They are in charge of the dead souls residing in the Beyond Realm.

Soulvore : A creature created through necromancy that consumes souls and necromantic magic, transforming into a more dangerous and deadly version of itself. The process turns their green soulflame black.

Sudyrl [Sue-drill]: Tiger shifter. Corporal in the Ariake army.

Sybir [Sigh-beer]: City. Capital of Odatam.

Talwyn [Tall-win]: Continent of kingdoms in the Living Realm.

Tatsuki [Tah-tsu-key]: Dragon shifter. King of Valzerna in the past. Father of Kio, Kisano, Kitsuki, Kizoshi, and Mitsuki.

Terramancer [Terra-mancer]: Mage who uses magic to command nature.

The Ecstasies of Knowing : Arcane text by the Order of the Sacred Sigil about enhanced intimacy through knowledge. Only three copies remain in existence after necromancers attempted to destroy them all.

Tiora [Tea-or-uh]: City. Capital of Valzerna.

Tozoko [Tow-zoh-co]: Northeastern kingdom of Talwyn.

Trinity Bond : Legendary mating bond formed between a human, shifter, and Power. It’s been eons since one has been formed.

Tyrian [Tier-e-on]: Dragon shifter. Jaega’s only surviving child. Head of Kitsuki’s castle guards and heir to the Valzerna throne.

Valdrion Falaris [Val-dree-on?Fuh-lair-iss]: Variform shifter. Captain in Nasume’s army. Known for his fighting prowess and being an honorable warrior. Trained Maseo in the Kunushi army.

Valzerna [Val-zur-nuh]: Eastern island kingdom of Talwyn. Ruled by King Tatsuki and King Mitsuki in the past, then King Kitsuki in the present.

Vanra [Vaughn-ruh]: Auslin’s birth name. Uses it in past to protect his identity in the present.

Variform Shifter : Very rare shifter who can shift into the form of any person or creature.

Velfite [Vel-fight]: Fish. Primarily found in the Balsimi kingdom. Famous for its distinctive blue rainbow scales and sweet flavor.

Venrik [Vin-rick]: Ruling wolf shifter pack of Kunushi.

Wandril [Wan-drill]: City. Capital of Elyenbell.

War Power: Deity named Kizoshi who is responsible for war and its outcome in the Living Realm.

Watchers : Guardian spirits Sophina uses to keep an eye on certain people to help her protect them.

Wish Pendant : Jewelry. Contains some magic of the Wish Power to grant the wearer’s wishes. Given to wishmancer mages who worship Mireya, granting them a direct link to her ability to grant their wishes.

Wish Power : Deity named Mireya who grants the wishes of people in the Living Realm.

Wishmancer [Wish-mancer]: Mage who worships Wish Power Mireya and uses magic to grant wishes.

Zenathir [Zen-uh-theer]: Former Knowledge Power. Formed a trinity bond with Orinth and Palimirno in the distant past. Voluntarily moved to the Beyond Realm to be with his mates after Orinth’s passing.

Zinnia [Zen-knee-uh]: Central kingdom of Talwyn.

Zolemni [Zol-m-knee]: City. Capital of Balsimi.
