Belle broke away from me and rushed over to the old woman. “Are you okay, Mrs Argyle?”
“I-I think so.” The older woman stood from the floor with Belle’s help.
“Ok, I’m gonna call my cousin, Nicky,” Briget said. “He’s a cop and he’ll know what to do.”
Mrs Argyle took a step toward her with a business card in her hand. “No, no. You need to call this guy. He’s FBI.”
Belle gasped and I paused.
Briget took the card and silently read the name. Then she looked at Belle and I as she gave us a slow nod of her head. Looking over at Mrs. Argyle, she asked, “W-when did he give you this card?”
The old lady smiled at her as she tried to smooth her hair back into place. “Three days ago. He said to call him if Belle came back, cause her life was in danger. That was why I came over here then that crazy woman pointed a gun at me and dragged me over to the door.”
“Holy shit,” Fate muttered.
Epilogue
Belle
Three days later…
Nicky did in fact bring some officers with him and they took Sierra to the hospital in cuffs, of course. She had escaped from the institution she had been held at. Apparently, she had a concussion, the poor wretched thing. They were going to book her on attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and they even added kidnapping so she wouldn’t get out for a very long time.
Mrs. Argyle seemed fine after the incident, she had been so excited to tell all her friends what happened. And we were set to leave before any other gossip formed, not that I really cared now. The one thing I’d learned here was that kind of thing didn't matter in the scheme of things. Being safe and alive was what counted. We made sure to tell Nicky that we would be gone for a while. He was aware of the Walker war, like most of the town. We all hoped that someday, it would finally be over and that there would be enough people left in town to start over again.
I sure couldn’t believe that we didn’t even get to stay a whole day at my apartment. How crazy was that? Well this time, I had Fate and Liberty help me pack up all the belongings I wanted to take with me. The Rebel Saints that had been waiting to escort us got antsy and nervous that it was taking us so long, but Briget and I wanted to take our stuff with us.
After using the carwash escape, we all made our way to the Connor House. Now we had two more guests here… Briget and Daisy.
Talon had been right all along, the asshole. When he saw us after we arrived, he nodded at us and said, “Deacon never forgets and he never leaves any stone unturned. He has indeed been watching for you to show back up your apartment and your old job.”
Standing next to me at the time, Briget had muttered to me, “Well, he’s just a Mr. I-Told-You-So, isn’t he? Ok, so maybe Talon wasn't that terrible. But I still thought he was too bossy. Of course, he was all about protecting the Walker Clan, so it was hard to hate him for that.
My mom was happy to see me back, Scarlet too, but they knew how much I missed my job. The thing was my life also involved Liberty. I simply accepted the fact that I would need to make a new life. Maybe go to law school? Justice said he could help with that. I could someday be a lawyer, join Justice Walker's firm. I read up online about his court cases and reputation and it was more than impressive.
I’d kept busy here as I made a permanent place for myself in the household duties. Kitchen work, cleaning and Ma told me there were going to be several more weddings I could work on. She’d said I had done a really great job with Scarlet’s. Speaking of that, Scarlet was expecting. Yep, she was going to be a mom. Then our mom would be a grandma and I would be an aunt. Wow, just wow.
Bridget seemed to fit in with the Walkers right away. Her and Ma hit it off immediately. The three of us had daily talks and joking around. I loved our afternoon tea, that wasactualtea time with Ma Walker. Her stories and philosophy on life were clever and hilarious.
Miss Daisy was also having the time of her life. She had lots of room to explore, many people to smooze for treats and lots oftoys to chew. After all, she should live like a queen, right? She had saved my life, according to her thinking anyway.
None of us knew how long it would be until we could all leave and pursue normal lives. So, I decided to just do one day at a time and one star gazing night at a time.
Crazy Sierra had shown me one important thing…life was short so I figured I could make the best of it. I had my family and friends here now and the best part? I was in love with a man named Liberty.
NOT QUITE THE END…
