Page 10 of Last Chance with the Mountain Man
With her car loaded down, Titan followed behind her at a safe distance. She found delight watching him in the rearview mirror, but she knew it was dangerous not keeping her eyes on the road at all times. When they reached the bottom of the mountain, she pulled over for one last goodbye.
Leaning against the side of her car, Titan placed both hands next to her face. His kiss was fierce but it reassured her of the way he felt…about her. About them. She wrapped her leg around his then pulled him near. Though he’d yet to say those three little words, she didn’t doubt that he cared for her.
A car passing by blasted the horn and they couldn’t help laughing.
“At least they didn’t tell us to get a room.” Titan said, pushing her hair away from her face.
“True. If I had one more night with you though—”
“Shhh.” Titan pressed his finger against her lip. “Baby, we have the rest of our lives.”
“Will you call me as soon as you get home?” she asked. She had a little bit further to drive than he did, but they both would be home before it got too late.
“Of course I will. You’ll probably get sick of me calling so much,” he teased. “You’ll probably stop answering and send all of my calls to your voice mail.”
“Never.”
She’d probably take another day off to get everything unpacked and to let her clients know that she was back in town. If she couldn’t line up a full day of appointments the following day, she’d definitely take as many walk-ins as she could.
They both agreed to look at their schedules and see when they could arrange seeing each other again. If one couldn’t make it work, then the other was willing to drive the full distance just so they could spend time together. Even if it was only for a day.
“I guess this is it, huh?”
“I love you, Titan.”
He hesitated for a minute. “And I love you.”
Felicia let out a relieved sigh. She’d waited for him to say it for so long and now she could return home knowing that he’d finally told her.
“I know you need to look into what will happen to your dad, but I’m here for you. Please don’t forget that.”
“If it were up to me—”
“You’ve made it clear the way you feel. I…I don’t hold it against you anymore. You weren’t the one driving his car. He made that choice. Not you. Whatever happens won’t bring back my brother, but we always have the memories.”
“And the memories we’re going to create together.”
Felicia kissed him one last time. “Until next time.”
“Yes, until next time, baby.”
