“Adrian! Oh my God! Hey, shut up, everybody! It’s Adrian!” I heard a female’s voice shout.

“Hi, Mom. Um, okay, so I understand the Mylos contacted you and told you I was okay.”

“Yes, but they didn’t say if that was okay, but you’re in the hospital with a broken arm, or if it was, you were unhurt but under arrest, or when you’d be coming home, none of that!”

“Okay. Well, how about I let you see for yourself. Pick up your iPad and turn it on.”

“I’ll have to get it away from Celia first. She’s playing a Baby Shark game.” Then her voice grew fractionally distant. “Celia! Please give Grammie that. I need it to talk to your Uncle Adrian. That’s a good girl.” Louder once more, “Okay, I have it.”

“Go to the home screen, you’ll see a flying saucer logo.”

“Mmhmm. What is that? I don’t remember that.”

“The Mylos just sent it to you. Tap it and it will open this up as a video call, I think.”

I nodded my head at him, letting him know he was correct.

“Okay, tap it and, oh! There you are! Look, it’s Adrian!”

Several people peered at the screen and Adrian chuckled, giving them a small wave.

“Are those Mylos? Where are you?” an older male asked.

“Um, well, Dad, Mom, everyone, this is Klora, one of the Mylos security officers who rescued me and Tyrone. And the other guy is Jorah. He works here at the Scholarship Center and he set this call up for us.”

The older woman who had to be his mother narrowed her eyes at him. “You’re not telling us something. You know I could always read you like a book. And you know I was always reading, always taking you to the library, so I read pretty good but especially you! Like a book!”

His father sighed. “You know she’ll get it out of you sooner or later. Just cut to the chase and save us all time.”

He drew me to him, lacing his fingers through mine before lifting our joined hands.

“He not only saved me, but it turned out I’m his mate.”

The group began talking over each other excitedly.

“Quiet!” Adrian shouted. “Let Mom speak!”

“He came like a knight in shining armor and was revealed to be your one true love!” she said excitedly.

“Okay, wow, I wasn’t expecting you to take it quite so well.”

“Why not?” the diminutive female demanded. “You just told me my baby boy met a worthy man, who since is a Mylos, will be your perfect match in every way. What more other than happiness could a mother possibly wish for her children?”

“Grandbabies,” a younger female around my mate’s age answered.

She shrugged. “Okay, but they adopt and besides, you have given me Celia and Thomasa.” She leaned closer to the screen. “I look forward to meeting you, Klora!”

I grinned at them all happily. “As do I! We’ll be in touch soon to finish making the travel arrangements for you all to attend the wedding.”

Pandemonium broke out once more.

“Gee, thanks,” Adrian said sarcastically to me. “I was hoping to ease into that.”

“Sorry,” I replied.

“I’m not. I think despite how we came to meet, meeting you has been the best thing to ever happen to me.”

I leaned down, hovering my lips just above his. “To me, too. That, I could never be sorry for.” And then I kissed him.

“Awww!” his family all shouted and we both began to laugh.

One thing was certain. Life with my mate was going to be interesting and full of joy. I just knew it.

“How do you feel about going to check out a dog for that walk on the beach once we leave here?”

“I’m afraid I’ll feel bad when we give it a good time and then it has to return back to the kennels.”

“Then let’s choose carefully and keep him or her.”

He kissed me again, this time waving his hand wildly at his teasing family.

“Call us later!” his father asked.

“Yeah, when you can stop sucking each other’s face!” a younger male called out.

Jorah wisely ended the comm and I found myself wondering if any of them liked watching crime dramas. Not that it mattered. Right now, this man and the dog we were going to go see was all that mattered.

The End (for now)
