Goddammit.
CHAPTER 24
Victor
Yes, I absolutely felt like crap that I had to leave her upstairs.
Except… duty called.
Literally.
I knew I could go to Leo and ask about him intervening on my behalf for her, cite the obvious family emergency, but…
That wasn’t fair to my fellow agents. I had responsibilities.
And I wasn’t ready to walk away from my career yet.
If I got myself bounced from duty for this, I knew exactly what would happen—I’d find myself no longer working at the White House, or on The Shift. I’d end up doing advance work again or be stationed at a field office investigating the newest creative ways crackheads tried to counterfeit money.
No, thank you.
We did get to spend one night together, the night after the funeral. Kayley flew back to DC with Leo, Elliot, and Jordan, and we locked ourselves in one of the third-floor guest bedrooms, where we made love for hours.
I didn’t risk spanking her; I bit and pinched and scratched and had to stifle her moans with my mouth as I made her come all over my cock.
Finally, in the wee hours of the morning, we snuggled, spent, exhausted.
She trailed her fingers across my pecs. “I could stay here a couple more days,” she said.
I deeply inhaled the scent of her shampoo, not wanting to forget a second of this night. “I’m flying out tomorrow afternoon with the team escorting VPOTUS to a summit in Ottawa. I’m the lead agent, so I can’t drop out.”
“Oh.”
I hated the quiet, almost pained way she said it.
“I’m sorry, baby.”
“Stop apologizing. I’m fine. I’m a big girl.” But her hand had stilled.
This wasn’t okay, and I didn’t have a way to make it okay.
I thought about the paddles and rope and other implements I’d brought back with me from Montana, and how they now sat in the suitcase on my couch in my apartment.
“I should’ve brought your collar and cuffs with me,” I said.
“Why?”
I froze, trying to decipher that one fucking word. “I… I mean, it would have been quiet, and?—”
“It’s okay,” she said.
Didn’t sound okay.
“Baby, are we?—”
“Let’s go to sleep,” she said. “You can have fun waking me up in the morning and we can take a shower together before you leave, right?”
I nuzzled the top of her head. “Yeah, right. Love you.”
