Michael

The days following the ransacking of Fendi House proved easier than Michael had expected.

With Matteo taking the lead role as the eldest of the three of them, Michael had taken responsibility for making sure that life back in the city was running smoothly.

And with loyalty toward Tassimo almost non-existent at this point, there was very little resistance to the new regime.

In fact, the new team of Matteo, Michael, and Faustino was met with respect and enthusiasm by pretty much everyone in the criminal underworld.

As had become widely known, Tassimo was feared but he wasn’t liked or respected. There was a sense that he was overstepping the mark in more ways than one and his departure was greeted with appreciation from the city and indeed from rival families too.

The Inzaghi clan of course denied all knowledge of any deal that may have been struck between them and Tassimo.

For the time being, Michael decided along with Matteo and Faustino that they would let sleeping dogs lie.

The Fendi family and the Inzaghi’s would never be friends, but that didn’t mean that they should live in perpetual war.

So, for now, there was peace on the streets.

And speaking of streets, Michael was very happy to be back on one very special street indeed…

‘Hello, Little Mr., I’d like your finest bouquet,’ Michael said as he walked into Flowers on Fifth and was greeted by the sight of a smiling and busy Benjamin.

‘Well, I’ll see if I can squeeze you in…’ Benjamin teased, finishing off a rose cutting and then darting over toward his Daddy. ‘ Yummy , I love kissing you!’

‘The feeling is mutual, I can assure you,’ Michael smiled.

‘And good news from Spain. I spoke with Mrs. Ramos this morning and she said that she was happy to accept our offer for the business. She’s going to call you later to catch up and offer her congratulations, but honestly I think she was so proud of you.

And returning to Spain full time is the right thing for her.

She can look after her family, and be looked after herself by all her children, grandchildren, and nephews and nieces. It’s a win-win.’

‘She was really special to me,’ Benjamin said, smiling a little sadly. ‘But I’m happy she’s with her family again. Part of me thinks she was only sticking around here for so long to train me to take over!’

‘Well she did apologize for not getting in touch for so long,’ Michael said. ‘Apparently there was a real downturn in her father’s health. Family comes first. As we all know. But trust me, she thinks very highly of you. Just like I do, in fact.’

Michael felt a surge of pride as he watched Benjamin get back to work.

Flowers on Fifth was going to go from strength to strength, Michael was absolutely convinced of that. And with full Fendi protection in place, there was never going to be an issue with unwanted visitors sticking their dirty beaks in again.

‘Okay, my darling boy, it’s time for me to head on out again,’ Michael said, straightening his jacket collar and refocusing his mind.

‘Okay, Daddy,’ Benjamin said. ‘Will you pick me up after work?’

‘I will,’ Michael replied. ‘And I’ll do it every single day, if I can. You’re my world, Benjamin. It’s an honor to be your Daddy for life.’

Benjamin smiled sweetly and blew Michael a kiss.

And with that, it was time to hit the streets and make sure that every damn gangster, hustler, and street thug knew that the Fendi clan was reformed, regrouped, and ready to make the entire city theirs.
