“When you want to do this? Winter’s setting in and good days will be few until it starts moving out,” Pinch said while he pulled his ringing cell from inside his vest.

“We can decide later. There’s no rush, Ry will just be thrilled you guys are on board,” Keg said, then chuckled. “Maybe it will settle him down. He’s driving Raven nuts with all the motorcycle talk, and if that isn’t bad enough, he told her last week, he was prospecting when he turned eighteen. Thought I saw a couple of her hairs turn gray on that one.”

“Well, at least you know Raven won’t go on the trail ride. Charlie’s going to get pissed when I tell her she can’t come. I know her ass will want to go even if none of the other women do,” Hawk chimed in, and we all laughed.

“Madison? You there, Madison?” Pinch’s words and tone had everyone going quiet and turning in his direction.

“What’s going on, Pinch?” I asked.

“I’m not sure,” he said as he looked at us, then took the phone from his ear and tapped a button on the screen. Muffled voices could be heard through the speaker, but the words couldn’t be made out.

“What the hell did Madison do, butt dial you?”

Before Pinch could answer, a man’s voice came out of the phone, “Bitch, I told everyone to turn over their phones!”

The next thing we heard was Madison scream followed by the distinct sound of a gunshot, then nothing but silence as the line went dead.
