Page 76 of Justified Lies
Everyone at TFH knew that Ian’s nemesis had visited him in the hospital.
“No.”
“No? I thought maybe Sam would be there.”
His eyes narrowed as he studied Kap.
“Stop the gossiping and get the rest of the boxes,” Eden called down. He smiled. She had been lighter these last few weeks, much like those days when they had first met.
“All the boxes have been brought in.”
“Oh, good.” She started down the steps, a smile curving her lips, and he couldn’t help the burst of heat that sped through his blood. He would never forget just how it felt to have this woman look at him this way.
“Ugh, stop looking at her like that,” Ian said.
“I concur,” El said as he strode into the house.
“I thought you weren’t coming home until tomorrow?” Eden asked.
“Job ended early.”
“Do we want to know what that means?” Ian asked.
“Nope. And whatever Emily says to you is a lie.”
“Well, I must make haste, as they say in my home country.”
“That’s not something they say. Is it?” El asked. “I mean, I know they did at one time, but…where have I heard that before?”
“Bridgerton,” Eden said. “And don’t even deny you watch it.”
El said nothing.
“I was thinking we could all go out for dinner tonight,” El said.
“Well…” Eden said.
They had planned on their own celebration, thinking that El wouldn’t be back for a day or two.
“They have plans,” Ian said, grabbing El by the arm. “Come tell me all the bad things Emily did to you while you were on assignment, and we can plot her demise.”
After the door shut behind them, Eden came to him, slipping her arms around his waist. “Finally.”
He chuckled. “Ian helped us with the last of the boxes.”
TFH had helped him move the furniture he didn’t sell, but that was over the weekend. Today was Tuesday, and while he could have waited until the weekend, he had wanted to get moved in as quickly as possible. Plus, he would go back to work next week—light duty.
“Whatever will we do?” he said.
“I thought we could start unpacking.”
He looked down at her and saw the teasing smile on her face. “Hmm, well, we are close to the kitchen.”
They’d christened many of the rooms and spaces in the house, but the kitchen hadn’t made the cut.
“True, but we have a lot of boxes to unpack.”
The sweet teasing in her voice made his heart soar.
