He wished he could adequately express how much he did love her. He’d thought about it a lot the last few days.“I love you, Mallory.I think I have since the first day you organized my inbox and then told me that you would not tolerate the break room in its present condition, and by the way, there was great new software for creating call sheets.”
She smiled. Her eyes began to glisten.“I can’t believe this is happening.”
“I love you, and I just hope you can learn to love me.”
“Jason I—”
“You don’t have to say anything.I just needed to get that off my chest.”
“But I love you, too, Jason.I have loved you since I first saw you and you asked me that ridiculous question about how to use the Find my Phone feature.I loved you when you were unreasonable and impossible, and there was never a day, not one, that I didn’t want to strangle you and then rip your clothes off.”
“Oh.Wow.That’s love I guess,” he said uncertainly.
“It is.It is deep love, Jason Blackthorne. And you were right.I didn’t want to hear it, and it hurt my feelings, but you were right.I’m not ready to direct a series.I know that. But I also knew I had to quit.If I didn’t, I’d be organizing your inbox for the rest of my life.”
He pulled her closer, put his arm around her waist and drew her into his body.“I don’t care about my inbox.I only care that you are with me.I do need you, Mallory. But I need you for me.Not the job.”
She smiled up at him, lifted up on her toes and kissed him.“This is a freaking fairy tale.I used to read about them at the library, and now here I am, right in the middle of one.”She grinned and kissed him again.
“You know what happens at the end of a fairy tale, right?”Jason asked, and nuzzled her neck, so happy to have her back in his arms.
“A happy ever after?”she asked, and nibbled his ear.
“Before that.”
“Crazy, wild, sex?”She bit his ear.
“I thought you’d never ask.”
Mallory laughed. She grabbed his hand and tugged him to her bedroom and their happily ever after.
