William was deliriously excited when he heard about the baby. “When will it be here?” he asked as he jumped up and down around Laria, whooping with glee.

“Well, it is a bit like a loaf of bread,” Laria explained. “When you put it in the oven, it is very small, then it grows and grows ’til it is ready. This baby is growing inside me as if I was the oven, so it will only come out in a while, maybe in the summer.”

“How did it get in there?” William asked curiously.

James and Laria looked at each other in complete panic. They had not prepared themselves for this question, and William looked determined to have his answer.

“Would you like to go for a ride?” James asked suddenly.

William frowned at him. He might be only ten years old, but he was wise beyond his years, and he knew evasion when he was being fobbed off. However, he decided that if the answer were worth knowing, he would worm it out of them somehow…

“Only if I can ride on your horse,” he told James firmly.

James knew when he was beaten. “Just this once,” he sighed.
