Espen—Some time later

“Come on, crazies,”Akari called to the small army of children as she waved them over to the area she’d designated as the story rug. They had their own teachers, but she and her sisters (as she’d recently taken to calling Diora, Vena, and Lavee) took turns telling the kids stories and feeding them treats every few days to give their parents some alone time.

The moon hung over us, but its presence felt like nothing more than a string on my finger. Between the rest of my magic and the steadiness of mine and Akari’s mating bond, I hadn’t struggled with the moon in a long, long time.

It was, quite literally, a weight off my shoulders.

“Tell us how the brothers’ magic got split,” Diora’s oldest son urged.

“Tell us how you and Espen fell in love,” Lavee’s oldest daughter swooned.

“Tell us about the fights!” our toddler cheered, his fists flying into the air.

He was a violent one. It was a damn good thing he was so cute.

“How about I tell you what happened the first day I met the king?” Akari’s lips curved upward in a wicked grin as she lifted her gaze to mine.

Fuck, I loved that woman.

“We haven’t heard that one,” one of Diora’s daughters agreed, sounding excited.

“Well, it all started with a knife…”

Akari began our story, and my gaze lingered on her. Her face was bright, her expression one of vibrant happiness as she told them about the day she threw a knife at my chest.

And as I listened to her talk about that first day we met, I couldn’t help but feel like the luckiest fucking fae in the world.
