Abril found herself spending more time watching Crispin’s face as he watched the movie, Mr. Right , than she did actually watching it herself. Much to her relief he seemed to enjoy it. She was glad. It was a favorite of

hers, one she’d seen three times already, and Abril normally didn’t watch any movie more than once

Halfway through the movie, she paused it to ask if he was hungry or thirsty.

Crispin only hesitated a moment, before saying, “In fact I am.” Climbing off the bed he added, “Wait here and I will fetch

us some snacks and drinks.”

He was out the door before her gaze landed on the collection of items on the corner of her desk.

The popcorn and chips that she had collected earlier, and a selection of sodas that he had obviously brought in while she was changing.

She considered calling out to him and reminding him of the items in the office, but the sodas had been sitting on her desk for a while now, and would no doubt be warm, so she didn’t say anything, and simply waited for him to return.

Crispin hadn’t closed the door all the way. Abril realized that when she heard Lucian say with disgust, “Butt quack?”

She had to bite her lip to keep a laugh from escaping her when she heard that. She was glad she had, otherwise she wouldn’t

have heard Crispin’s response when he asked mildly, “Are you looking at my ass, Uncle?”

Abril was still smiling at that when Crispin returned to the room five or six minutes later with two Dagwood type sandwiches

and glasses full of ice cubes on a tray, as well as a bag of chips dangling from his mouth.

She immediately scrambled off the bed to help him, taking the chips and then closing the door behind him.

“Thank you,” Crispin said as he walked around the bed to climb onto it from his side. He waited for her to get back in beside

him and then set the tray down a little in front and between them. “I was not sure what kind of sandwiches you like, but I

hope these will do.”

“Do?” Abril asked with amusement. “It looks like you have everything from the refrigerator on those sandwiches. How did you

make them so quickly?”

“Immortal skills,” he said with a grin, and then confessed, “Actually, Bricker was out there making sandwiches and had everything

out on the island. I just had to throw them together, and get the drinks.” He paused briefly and then confessed, “I also took

the chips he had out for himself. It sped things along.”

Abril chuckled at this news as she reached for the nearer sandwich.

“How is it?” he asked the moment she took a bite. “My brother and sister like these, but I am not sure how they taste so was not sure you would like it.”

Abril glanced at him with curiosity. “You’ve never had a Dagwood sandwich before?”

When he looked surprised at her question, she grimaced and said, “Oh. Right. You haven’t eaten since 751 BC.” Her eyes widened

with realization. “Man! You haven’t eaten for centuries.”

“More like millennia,” he corrected. “Close to three in fact.”

“Three millennia,” she murmured.

“Only a little over two centuries short of three millennia,” he pointed out.

“Because you were born in 900 BC,” she remembered and felt her earlier horror on learning this returning. She’d had so much

to deal with at the time, she’d kind of pushed this information aside to concentrate on the other stuff. Now, however, even

the Dagwood wasn’t distracting her from the fact that she was presently in bed with a man older than dirt.

“Yes, 900 BC,” Crispin agreed, concern beginning to pluck at his expression as he peered at her. “I realize that must be something

of a shock to you.”

“A shock? Oh no,” she assured him. “All my dates have been born before Christ. It’s just the type of guy I like. Thousands

of years old.” And then she closed her eyes, shook her head, and muttered, “Wow, and Barb thought a seven-year age difference

was a red flag when it came to men.”

“Abril,” he said gently. “This should just tell you how important you are to me. I have waited millennia to find you.”

For some reason that made a short laugh slip from her lips. “And Barb accused me of being choosy because I’m thirty-two and haven’t settled down with anyone yet.” Raising her head, she glanced to him, and explained, “She wants grandbabies.”

When his eyebrows rose at that, she explained, “Barb and Bob were unable to have children of their own. I think that’s why

they pretty much adopted me. So, they are counting on me to present them with the grandchildren they yearn for.”

“Ah.” Crispin was still eyeing her with concern.

“I mean, I knew you guys could live a long time, and you did tell me your age and everything earlier, but there was so much

information coming at me at the time that I didn’t really consider the fact that you’re so old,” she admitted, and then frowned

and added, “Sorry, I know that may be a rude thing to say. No one likes to hear they’re old. I’m just a little surprised and

unsure how to feel about this. You look so young, and I was hoping that you were older than twenty-five or thirty or at least

closer to thirty than twenty-five. In fact, I was counting on that, I just wasn’t expecting—”

Crispin ended her rambling by kissing her.

For Abril it was actually a relief that he shut her up.

She had really just been rabbiting mindlessly on, and wasn’t sure she even knew what she’d been saying.

Mostly it was panic talk. But she stopped worrying about it as his kisses roused the usual passion inside of her.

Those kisses of his were like a drug that she couldn’t get enough of, and Abril threw herself into them with the eagerness his passion inspired.

In fact, she did not just respond, she basically didn’t just kiss him back, but climbed right into his lap.

When she heard the jangle of plates and glasses clanking together, she recalled the tray Crispin had set on the bed.

Abril stopped kissing long enough to glance over her shoulder.

Fortunately, the tray hadn’t upended, and nothing on it had been disturbed to the point of spilling. As she watched, Crispin

used one foot to push the tray farther away from them, toward the end of the bed where it would be out of danger, and then

she turned back to peer down at his face.

She was on her knees, with his legs straight out on the bed between hers which put her head higher than his so that he was

looking up at her, his head tipped back. Abril peered solemnly at his beautiful face, noting that his silver-blue eyes were

more silver than blue right now, and then she lowered her head and kissed him. She kissed him eagerly and with demand, and

for some reason, her aggressiveness drew a sound like a growl from Crispin’s throat. And then his hands were all over her.

Touching her through the cloth of her pajamas. Finding and caressing her breasts. Squeezing and kneading them briefly before

he suddenly began to tug her pajama top upward.

Abril broke their kiss so that he could remove the top. He pulled it up over her head and tossed it aside, then immediately

set to work on her bra.

Recalling how well the immortals could hear, Abril left him to it and reached for the mouse.

She clicked on the movie to make it start up again, filling the room with the loud sound of gunfire, and then dropped the mouse just as her bra slipped away and Crispin’s mouth closed over one nipple.

Abril moaned then, unconcerned that she would be heard over the movie playing, and let her fingers glide into his hair to cup his head as he suckled and nipped at the erect nub.

The moment she did, Crispin let his hands drop down to her behind and began to squeeze and knead her flesh through the soft

material of her pajama bottoms. He used those caresses to pull her lower body tighter against him so that she was leaning

back somewhat, arching into the attention he was giving her one nipple with his teeth, tongue, and lips.

Abril gasped at the excitement charging through her. And then Crispin murmured, “I want to make love to you,” before his mouth

closed over her nipple.

The only response Abril could give was a moaned, “Oh God.”

She wanted to say sex was off the table as she had in the laundry room. She really didn’t want to have a child at this point

in her life. Crispin could talk about life mates all he wished, but they had just met and her mortal morals couldn’t accept

that they were meant to be together forever so quickly. But when his one hand released her ass to slide around between her

legs and rub her there, she forgot all about her concerns, and threw her head back on a cry as the excitement she’d been experiencing

was increased a hundredfold.

The sensation he was causing in her was so strong, she hardly noticed when he began to pull her pajama bottoms down.

Abril was too caught up in the waves of excitement building and pounding through her.

It wasn’t until he had to remove his hand to get it out of the way so that he could finish tugging her pajama bottoms off her hips that she noticed, and then it was only because she didn’t want him to stop touching her.

Much to her relief, Crispin didn’t stop for long.

He barely tugged her bottoms halfway down her thighs before returning to caressing her, but now without the cloth of the pajamas between them.

“Oh yes,” Abril groaned, and began to ride that hand as much as she could without pulling her nipple from his suckling lips.

She was on the edge of finding her release when Crispin eased his caresses, and moved away from the center of her excitement.

Letting her nipple slip from his mouth, he licked a path to her other breast and growled again, “I want to make love to you.”

The moment the last word left his lips, he closed them over her second nipple and began to suckle and tease that one.

Caught up in everything she was experiencing, Abril went willingly when he suddenly urged her backward until she lay flat
