A weight eased from my chest and my knees buckled with the knowledge of what he’d just said. He was letting us live.

I opened and closed my mouth a few times, trying to wrap my head around what he’d asked me. “What about Isobella?” I questioned. “If I chose to go with you, where does that leave her?”

“I’ll stay here then,” I murmured.

He didn’t seem surprised by that in the slightest. He blew out a loaded breath and nodded. “Very well.” Taking a step toward me, he pressed his lips to the corner of my mouth before backing away. “Until next time, Little Martyr.”
