“Oh no!” I say in mock horror. “The scary bad man has caught me! Whatever will I do?!”
“You could beg for my forgiveness?” he suggests.
I pretend to think about it for a minute, then I give him my pouty lip and big eyes. “Please forgive me. I didn’t realize you hated jizz so much.”
Somehow, his eyes narrow even further as he speaks. “I’ll forgive you on one condition.”
“Anything,” I promise instantly.
“Marry me.”
My jaw drops open and my eyes go wide.Is he serious right now?
No words come out as I stare up at him. His narrow gaze softens, and a small smile takes its place, his eyes turning from playful to hopeful.
“I….” I trail off, still unsure if he means it. This isn’t the first time he’s asked me this, but it’s normally easier to tell he’s kidding.
And unlike other times, when I’ve laughed it off, or rolled my eyes at his antics, this time I want to say yes,
But what about the others?
Before I can form any real words, he spins me around to find my other three boyfriends, all down on one knee, staring up at me with hope andlove. Reece kneels in the middle, and he holds open a small box with a gorgeous diamond ring inside. Anengagementring.
I’m afraid my eyes might actually fall out of my head, they’ve widened so much.
Bower moves around to kneel beside Kingsley as Reece speaks. “We love you more than anything in this world, Darla, will you marry us?”
“Y—Ahh!” I screech loudly as something warm hits me on the top of my head, spraying across my shoulders and arms and rolling down my face.
The guy's eyes widen in surprise and I reach up, wiping my forehead. When I look at my fingers, I clench my jaw in anger.
Bird shit.
There is only one asshole in this world who would shit on my head at the worst possible moment.
I turn my head to the sky and see him flying away. “Bob! You’re gonna pay for that!” I yell as I run to the blanket, grab Steve Jr, then take off after him. “You dirty little crab sucker! Get your ass back here so I can have you for dinner!”
“Wait!” Bower yells from somewhere behind me. “You never answered the question!”
I turn around, already fifty feet down the beach, cup one hand around my mouth and yell, “Yes! I’ll marry you!”
Then I turn back and continue running down the beach.
I can hear Weston and Reece yelling at me to stop as I do the same to Bob. That dirty little crab sucker! Why’d he have to go and ruin a perfectly good moment by shitting on me like that? I realize it’s not the first time he’s done that and despite being covered in his literal shit, I can’t stop the smile that plays on my lips.
I guess it doesn’t matter whether I’m stranded here or just visiting. In the end, the shit always finds me. But at least here I found something I never even knew I was looking for—love, belonging, and a future that looks nothing like I planned but has everything I need.
Still, with my four fiancés chasing me, as I run naked down the beach, rock in hand and seagull poop in my hair, I wouldn’t change a thing.
Because this is my happily ever after.
Messy, wild, and free.
The End
