“Oh, don’t let me stop you,” she says, voice smooth as silk.
Dario mutters under his breath, “Good job, dickhead.”
“Princess,” I start, exhaling, “I was just saying that once this is all over, we have to go.”
She studies me for a moment before nodding, her expression unreadable.
“You’re right,” she says simply. “So we’ll keep this formal. Just business.”
She turns toward the fridge, pulling out a chilled bottle of whiskey.
Dario frowns. “I don’t think that’s what Keir was getting at, cupcake.”
Selene hums as she grabs four glasses, pouring two fingers into each.
“You’re absolutely right, Dario,” she says, not looking up. “He was going to give you free rein to fuck me.”
She throws back her drink in one swallow, and something tightens in my chest. I don’t like the bitterness in her voice.
“I’m just trying to explain that attachment isn’t an option,” I grumble, feeling the words land like a blow.
Kaz remains silent, his focus on plating the food, but there’s tension in his shoulders.
Selene takes a deep breath, then offers Kaz a small smile. “Well, looks like you made a delicious meal.”
She picks up her plate and walks toward the table.
I watch her ass sway in those tight black leggings and force myself to look away.
Dario shoots me a pointed glare before following her, his glass and plate in hand. Kaz grabs his own, still silent.
I grab my drink and plate before I sit across from Selene.
“Alright,” Selene says after taking a sip of her whiskey. “You’re after the Russians because of their flesh trade.”
We all nod.
She starts to continue, but her phone rings.
She glances at the screen before answering, her tone instantly lighter. “Maximus, to what do I owe this phone call?”
I stiffen. Who the fuck is Maximus?
Her expression remains casual as she listens, smiling.
“Well, why don’t you head over then?” She looks at us. “They’re here, and we have a lot to discuss.”
I grind my teeth. They, as if my mouth wasn’t on her pussy fifteen minutes before.
She laughs at something Maximus says. “Bring that with you. See you soon.”
She hangs up and exhales.
Dario raises an eyebrow. “Who was that, peaches?” There’s a hint of jealousy in his voice.
Selene barks out a laugh. “That was my head of security.”
Dario’s cheeks turn pink.
