ROMEO
Juliet put her empty bowl on the coffee table and sat back on the couch with a groan. “I’m so full.”
I grinned. “You liked it?”
“It was so good. I love Thai food.” She rested her head back on the couch cushions, her eyes drooping.
I patted my leg. “Come here, sweetheart. Lie down.”
I guided her so her head was in my lap. She reached for her heating pad, but I beat her to it, arranging it over her stomach and covering her with a blanket. She gifted me with the sweetest smile in the world.
I stroked my fingers through her perfect hair, playing with the pink ends. It wasn’t long before she closed her eyes and drifted off.
I wished I could freeze this moment in time and stay here forever.
I’d always had a restless energy inside me that made it impossible to sit still. I’d sought out fights, danger, any kind of action to feed the unrelenting itch under my skin. But in Juliet’s presence, it vanished. My muscles relaxed, everything inside me stilled, and it was just me and her in this moment together.
I focused on the baking show playing softly on the TV to distract myself from popping a boner. I grabbed my phone to check in with Angelo. I’d been working with the Bratva soldiers Dimitri sent, catching them up on the Albanian threat and assigning them to their posts in the city. Angelo had immediately agreed to take over when I left to be with Juliet.

Angelo
Everything’s good. One of the Bratva guys is an explosives expert. We need to use more grenades
I rolled my eyes.
Romeo
I’ll get right on that
But everything else is ok?
Angelo
All good. Take care of your girl
