CHAPTER SEVEN
LOOT
I ’m still a bit shaken, days later, from my encounter with my Angel, Grace, as I walk into The Black Crown, the sun setting, giving the old building even more shadows.
I haven't had the nerve to think of a way to approach it again.
I know I came off like a douche, but my defenses were down, and I felt off-kilter.
Unfortunately, when I feel trapped, my mouth runs away from me, and I could see the minute I lost her, which was the last fucking thing I wanted to do.
Now I have to figure out how to make up the ground I lost. Hell, I have to first figure out how to “accidentally” run into her again.
Finick runs off to the side, where there's a dog bowl full of water just for her and probably someone sneaking her food when I’m not looking.
I greet my club brothers as I pass by, one by one.
I haven't really spent much time here lately. Been trying to finish the house and gamble just enough at Widow’s Peak to keep my savings padded.
“Loot, brother! Stopping by for a brew?” Moose hollers. I smile and shake my head, giving him a chin lift. I head over to the bar, where Rock, our club President, is sitting with Savior, the VP. He turns his head and gives me a chin lift.
“Just talking about you,” Savage says, taking a pull of his beer.
“Oh yeah, what did I do this time?” I ask, about to take a seat.
“Just wondering which of the prospects we should send to clean up the mess you made at the motel,” Rock says.
“Who deserves the most punishment?” Savior snorts, but I pipe up, causing him to choke on his beer.
“I’ll go,” I volunteer, almost too eager to give myself away. Or maybe it didn’t fucking matter, and these two old shits can read me like a book.
“Oh ho ho, someone is eager,” Savior chuckles. I need to get out of here as quickly as possible. Just as Rock opens his mouth, probably to bust my balls more, Red, the bartender and Grizz's niece, walks over to replace their beers. I take that as my moment to get the hell out of here.
“Heading over now to take care of cleanup,” I throw over my shoulder, barely stopping to glance back as Prez sends a flick of a finger my way. I let out a whistle and instantly Finick’s by my side.
“Hey Loot, need any hel…”
“Nope!” I cut off whoever the fuck it is, not wanting or needing any witness to another defeat, or if I’m really lucky, a successful groveling session. Either way, something my club's brothers never, and I mean never, should get a whiff of.
Getting to the parking lot, I take no time at all to get Finick loaded up and the bike roaring, and I’m off toward The Devil’s Rest Motel.
The entire way there, my mind is filled with one scenario after another about what could go wrong.
Each thought getting darker and darker. What if she catches me in the middle of cleanup?
What if she looks at me with utter disgust or, worse, laughs at me?
Fuck, what if I have another episode? Wouldn’t that just be the perfect fucking cherry on top of the shitastic cake?
By the time I’ve pulled into the motel, I’ve almost talked myself entirely out of trying to find my Angel.
I pull into the parking lot, and Eddie, seeing my bike, gives me a friendly wave.
I can't help but smile at the guy; he truly is a good guy, plus he gives us free access to a room and no questions asked.
He has the respect of every brother in the club.
Giving him a nod, I park and hop off the bike, unstrapping Finick.
She takes off as soon as she's cut loose, already knowing exactly what we're here for. She knows which room is for club business here and takes me right to it. I smile at the thought of what I’ll find on the other side of the door, hopefully a whimpering mess ready for a tell-all. I’m just about to reach room seven when I notice Finick's ears pull back.
Then, in the blink of an eye, she takes off.
“What the fuck?” She's never just run off like this before.
Even as a pup, she’s continuously been by my side since that fateful day in the desert.
I take off after her, calling out, but she's on a mission.
I hear the growl and know something serious is happening.
Just as I reach the end of the hallway, there's a scream and a loud bang.
I draw my weapon, and in the next second, a dark figure is shooting out of a dark lit room, and a small, barely dressed, familiar figure stumbles out after him.
“No, please! Don't!" It's Grace, my Grace, and she’s crying. A man is running from her room, and she is chasing after him, barely dressed and crying. Fuck, how could I have been so stupid as to ever think she was single? Hell, my chances might still be good if this is a bad breakup like it seems to be. Although I’m not really interested in being a rebound, my timeline was looking more like the rest of her life.
I start to tuck my pistol back into the waistband at my back and apologize for interrupting, but her devastated and tortured gaze fixes on mine, and it takes my breath away.
“Please, he took everything,” she cries, and I finally take in the situation. “He broke in and stole it all, everything I’ve worked hard for. Every penny I could save up.”
Oh, that motherfucker. Not on my fucking watch.
“Finick,” I start in a light tone. As her eyes look up to meet mine, I give a sinister smile. “Fetch.”
Finick is gone before the word can finish passing my lips, and with only a few long strides, she is lunging on top of the dead man.
“Ahh! What the hell?” the fucker screams as he tries to get back to his feet. Finick takes that as a sign of aggression and, in the next second, has the man face down with her sharp teeth clamped on his neck.
“I would suggest being very, very still. She’s trained to kill anyone she sees as a threat, and from what you just pulled, you’re looking like a big, fat, juicy steak,” I tell him as I walk up to the whimpering male before stooping close to his head.
I notice a stash of cash in his clenched fist; he’s trying to hide it.
Grabbing the wrist, I bend it at an odd angle and smile as I feel the pop.
The cash falls from his hand. I pick up the small pile of money and turn, handing it back to my Angel.
It's the first time I’ve stopped to really take in what she's wearing.
A white silk nightie that comes to the top of her thighs, lined in lace and topped off with pert little nipples poking through.
Her curves really come into view when she wears something that fits her shape perfectly.
Fuck, she's even more perfect. She truly is an angel here on Earth.
“Thank you so much,” she sniffles. “I don't know what I would have done if he had taken it all.”
“Don't you worry, Angel, I’ll make sure he’s taken care of,” I tell her, not even glancing at the piece of shit, knowing Finick’s got this well in hand. Grace wipes her eyes, giving me a small smile before turning and looking back toward her room. She breathes a deep sigh.
“I don't know what I’m going to do now. He kicked in the door; it's completely broken.”
“I can get that fixed, no problem. Though I don't think there are any more vacancies at the motel tonight. You got any other place to go?” I ask, not knowing what the fuck I'm talking about with vacancies for this place.
It could be abandoned for all I know, but a plan is forming in my head, and I have to make it happen.
“Pfft, I've been on my own since I was sixteen, no car, no cell phone, and I'm living in a motel. There is nowhere at all for me,” she states sadly but factually.
“Well, I have the perfect place.” I smile, the plan forming all in my head. Her in my house, crowding my space, and completely safe from any harm.
First things first, time to bribe Eddie.
