Aiden, ever the source of levity, cleared his throat and slapped Logan on the back again. “What is this… You want to marry?” he said with a grin, though there was a teasing note in his voice.
Enid remained speechless, her eyes darting between Logan and Aiden, the weight of Logan’s words hanging in the air. She swallowed hard, her lips trembling as she finally spoke. “I…” she stammered. “But…”
“There are not buts, love,” Logan replied, his voice steady and unwavering. “I want you to be my wife. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You have been my heart’s desire for so long. Please, say yes.”
Enid stared at him, her heart racing, the enormity of the moment settling over her like a warm embrace. Finally, she nodded, tears welling in her eyes as she whispered, “Yes. Yes, I will marry you.”
Logan’s face broke into a grin, and he pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly as if he had waited a lifetime for this moment. And in many ways, he had. He kissed her gently, his heart swelling with joy.
“How wonderful,” Felicity exclaimed. “And surprising… Are you going to marry today.” She winked. “I hear there is a blacksmith that performs weddings nearby.”
Logan grinned. “What do you say, love. Will you marry me today?”
“Yes,” Enid said. “I will. In fact, I demand it.”
“It will be my pleasure, darling,” he said.
He took her hand and headed to the blacksmith shop.
Aiden and Felicity followed behind them.
As Logan and Enid walked toward the blacksmith's shop, their hands entwined, a sense of euphoria swept over him.
Each step brought them closer to a future he had longed for, a future he would now shape with Enid by his side.
The moment had unfolded so quickly, yet it felt as though it had been a lifetime in the making.
He had confessed his love, laid bare his heart, and she had accepted him.
The world outside seemed to fall away, and in that space, there was only Enid, her soft hand in his, her presence a balm to the longing that had gripped him for years.
Aiden’s voice interrupted his thoughts, lighthearted as ever, but there was a warmth behind the teasing. “Well, now I feel like a proper witness to a fairy tale. I mean besides my own...” His gaze softened as he glanced at Felicity
Logan chuckled; the sound a release of the tension he hadn’t realized had built in him.
“I’m not sure what’s more surprising—her willingness to marry me, or that settled down and married.
But it seems fitting, don’t you think? That two miracles happened on the same day, and they were both my grandest wishes. ”
Enid smiled softly and her eyes shone with a mix of excitement and affection. “I never intended to marry ever again, but I can’t imagine taking that leap of faith with any other man. I love you.”
They reached the modest shop, the door creaking open to reveal the blacksmith, an older man with a gruff exterior, but his eyes softened when he saw the couple approach.
“Another wedding, eh?” he asked with a slight raise of an eyebrow.
“Are you running into couples in the street and telling them about yer own wedding and encouraging them to elope?” he asked Aiden and Felicity.
Aiden shook his head and told the blacksmith, “Not at all… My father had the same idea I did.” He grinned. “What can I say—we both know what we want.”
Logan rolled his eyes at Aiden but couldn't hide his grin. “I can’t disagree with him there...”
The blacksmith beckoned them to step forward, and with that, the small ceremony began. There was no grand archway, no delicate lace or flowers; just a simple union forged in the moment, as if they had been destined for it all along. “Then come forward and say yer vows.”
Logan’s voice was steady as he repeated the vows, looking into Enid’s eyes, seeing everything he had ever wanted reflected there. “I take you, Enid, as my wife. I promise to cherish you, to honor you, to love you, for as long as we both shall live.”
Enid’s words were soft, but they held the weight of her heart’s truth. “I take you, Logan, as my husband. To love you in all things, for all my days, through joy and sorrow.”
The blacksmith nodded solemnly, completing the ceremony with a final declaration. “I now pronounce you husband and wife.”
Logan could hardly believe the words as they settled into the air around them.
He reached for Enid, pulling her close, his lips meeting hers in a kiss that was gentle at first, but soon deepened with the weight of everything they had just promised each other.
Aiden and Felicity cheered in the background, but in that moment, all Logan could hear was the soft sound of Enid’s breath, her heart beating in sync with his.
When they finally pulled away, Logan looked down at her, his heart full. “This is it, my love. We’re married.”
She smiled up at him, her eyes brimming with happiness. “We are and while this is not how I imagined our journey to Scotland would go, I cannot be disappointed in the outcome.”
“Neither could I,” Logan said, his voice thick with emotion. “You’ve made me the happiest man in the world.”
Aiden clapped him on the back with a grin. “As lovely as this is…” He grinned. “I am in a hurry to take my own wife home. I trust the two of you can find your own way?”
Felicity’s laughter rang out, warm and genuine. “Charming as always, love,” she said and rolled her eyes. “We are going to see father first,” she told Enid. “And then we will return to Templeton Castle for a little while.”
Logan grinned, pulling Enid closer. “Take your time,” Logan told Aiden. “I would appreciate some time alone with my new wife.”
Aiden grinned. “Oh, I intend to take a good long while returning. You can rely on that?” He winked. “Now we are off and please, do not do anything I wouldn’t do.”
Logan sighed. “Then the landscape is wide open, son. I know exactly how scandalous you have been over the years…”
Aiden’s laughter echoed around them as he led Felicity from the blacksmith shop.
Logan didn’t spare them a second glance.
He only had eyes for one person, and that was his new wife.
With their hands entwined, they left the blacksmith’s shop, their hearts light with the promise of a future together.
They had begun their journey—imperfect, but theirs—and nothing else in the world mattered more than that.
The future lay open before them, full of potential, and Logan was ready for whatever came their way.
Temptation had never been grander or more rewarding before, and Enid would forever be the one lure he could never resist.
