“We need a little bit of blood to do a PKU test. It’s a rare disorder that can lead to brain damage if not treated in infancy.” The nurse swaddled our baby up again then brought her to me.

“Sorry about making your little angel cry. It’s necessary though. As parents, you should know that there will be shots and other things that will make your baby cry. But they are all to keep her healthy. Being a parent is hard sometimes.” She shrugged. “Lots of times. But there are far more awesome times than hard times. So, there’s that. What are we to call this young lady?”

Baldwyn handed me his paper and I handed him mine. “We’re about to find out,” I told her.

Unfolding the page, I closed my eyes, not wanting to be disappointed if the name he picked wasn’t my cup of tea. “Well, here it goes.” I opened my eyes and had to blink. “Wow.”

Baldwyn opened the paper I’d written on and looked back at me. “Wow, babe.”

“Can you believe this?” I held out the paper to the nurse and Baldwyn did too.

She read the names we’d both chosen out loud. “Audrey Rose. I like it.”

“Audrey was my mother’s name.” I couldn’t stop smiling at my husband.

“And Rose was my mother’s name,” Baldwyn said. “It fits our little girl well, doesn’t it?”

“Yes, it does,” I agreed as I took our baby back into my arms.

It might have taken a bit and we might have gone through some tough times, but we made it. Baldwyn and I had found it, our happily ever after.
