Chapter 27

I flung myself into the nightclub, pushing past wings and tails and limbs in a chaotic mass of revellers. Every touch pushed me higher, like a drug transferred through skin contact.

A giggle escaped my lips as my heart matched the thumping bass, vibrating me from the inside out. I was burning alive, and I needed the cool touch of those around me before I turned to ash.

“Fires…,” I cursed, pushing faster through the crowd.

Heat licked my insides as I hurried towards the bar.

It burned and burned, growing hotter by the second, spreading liquid heat to my limbs.

I doubled over with a groan, clutching my stomach and bracing against the nearest sticky table. Hunger followed on its heels.

But not for more of the quails Killian had caught.

Need curled through me, an ache pulsing between my legs in time with the flares of heat that echoed the club’s bass.

“Fuck…,” I groaned, trying to edge my way off the table. “What’s happening to me?”

Unsurprisingly, nobody answered.

Panic tried to set its fangs into me, sinking through the haze that made me too needy to think. I was probably still healing the wounds on my back and side, but the thought slipped away like blood through claws.

“You smell divine,” a deep voice rumbled in my ear.

I blinked. My chest was pressed against a cold body. Without conscious thought, I buried my face in the male’s damp shirt and inhaled his scent.

An incubus.

Another body pressed in behind me, the cool relief at their contact making my knees weak.

“She really does,” the man at my back called out above the music. “Even I can smell her ripe sweetness.”

I caught sight of peachy pale skin and turned enough to confirm he was human.

“Ss-cuse me…” My voice came out slurred as I tried to push past them.

I’d come here to do…something.

I just wasn’t sure what.

To feed? Was that why I needed to be touched so badly?

“Hey, where are you trying to run off to, pretty thing?” the incubus purred, forked tongue darting out to slather over his plump lips. “I can smell your need. You’re in heat, aren’t you?”

I couldn’t even form a response. A sinking terror tried to claw through the high, but it couldn’t find purchase in my mind. I’d heard that term before. Heat . I just couldn’t remember why it had panic spiralling through me.

“What’s a heat?” the man behind me yelled over the music.

The incubus leaned closer, practically squishing my lungs between him and the human. “It’s when a horny succubus lures in all the eager people nearby to satisfy her. Usually it’s yearly, but judging by the roughed-up state of this one, she’s so desperate for a feed she’s early.”

“Oh my god, so she’s literally a bitch in heat like some animal?” The human laughed, grinding his underwhelming length against my arse. “What a slut.”

The demon thrust his hips to keep us steady, and I could feel his hardness dig into my belly. “Yeah, a stupid one too, coming to a busy club in heat.”

A whimper escaped me, part need, part fear. There was no way I was letting these arseholes even attempt to satisfy me.

I couldn’t think about the fact that I’d never gone into heat before and this was the absolute worst place to do so. I could hardly think at all.

“Fuck off. I’m fine.” I batted at the incubus’s chest, and my fingers met the sticky fabric of his button-down shirt.

It felt good to have them rub against me like this, and I hated it. Some crazed part of me craved touch badly enough that it didn’t matter who they were.

The know-it-all incubus grinned. “It’s your first, isn’t it?” He tipped his head back and laughed. “They’re always the strongest. You’re going to be so much fun.” He angled to one side, revealing a table of demons lounging in a booth beside us. “Lads, we’ve got ourselves a party! Let’s take this little thing up to one of the rooms.”

Wait.

No.

I didn’t want to go anywhere with a group of strangers.

Oh fires. This couldn’t be happening.

Their combined energy slunk into me, their desire a cool whisper through my chest as I drank them down. But it wasn’t enough.

I blinked, dazed, as the incubus tugged me towards the stairs wrapping behind their booth. I stumbled, and the human scooped me up into his icy arms, squeezing around my tits and thighs.

I could hardly breathe.

“Ssstop!” I hissed, thrashing in his hold. “Put me down!”

But the friction of my clothes and his cold skin was too much. I’d burn alive if I didn’t get more though.

I kept squirming to get free, ignoring the insane need to reach between my legs so I could satisfy the incessant desire.

But it was no use. I was trapped.

More flavours and sensations added to the jumbled energy filling me as a group of demons followed behind us.

That impending sense of doom grew before the fire inside me burned it away.

We hit the top of the stairs, and the human marched me towards the first door with a green vacant sign on the oversize lock.

Another bouncer lounged at the top, giving us a once-over. His nostrils flared, and I could feel his desire spike, the taste of bitter hazelnuts coating my tongue.

“Help,” I croaked, my voice barely audible even to my own ears.

“Wait,” he called, holding a palm up to stop the group.

Relief surged. The bouncer was going to put a stop to this. He’d save me.

“I’ll let you take your needy toy into a room, but you have to use the glass one so everyone can watch the show.” Desperate glee slashed a wide grin through his narrow face. “And I’m having a turn.”

The incubus cackled, gesturing for him to lead the way.

Panic stabbed through the mind-numbing need. My claws grazed the arms caging me. The male’s hold tightened before I could do any actual damage, and he shook me in warning, sending my head lolling and thoughts scattering.

We were ushered into a vast room with a glass floor, showcasing the partiers below. Huge internal windows dominated the walls, with sofas facing us from the other side in the rooms beyond, mirrors lining the columns in between.

The human dropped me, and I slammed into the clear floor, my head thumping hard enough to see stars. I barely felt the pain before the heat devoured it. It ate through sensation, somehow using it to fuel the burning beneath my skin.

A whimper escaped my lips as the horror of the situation pierced my muddled thoughts. I needed to be touched. But I didn’t want these men anywhere near me.

“Back off,” I hissed. The usual feral sound came out like a drunken slur.

I fought not to welcome the incubus as he closed in on me, baring my fangs instead.

He crouched before me, pinching my chin between his claws. “Listen up. You’re a succubus in heat. And since you clearly don’t understand what that means, I’m going to do you a favour and help you out.”

His thumb point punctured my skin, releasing a wet bead to trickle down the front of my throat. His cruel smile loomed too large in my vision.

Menace leaked from his pores, along with the heady energy of desire. I could feel how excited he was, and it both drove me higher and turned my stomach.

“Go fuck yourself,” I snarled, jerking from his grip.

The movement caused a slice of pain along my jaw, but it was nothing compared to the agony of losing his cool touch. Like it had somehow been keeping the heat to a simmer.

Now it roared.

Flames lashed at my middle, searing and singeing my insides, and I curled up in a ball on the floor. Sweat slicked my skin. The glass room blurred as hot tears streamed down my cheeks. I could only just make out the rest of the club through the clear floor.

A bartender looked up from behind the long counter, not far below. Her glowing pink eyes locked onto me.

“Help.” I could barely make my lips move, but I tried to mouth out my plea anyway.

The lithe demon vaulted the bar, getting lost in the churning crowd below.

“Oh, don’t worry, slut, I’ve got something to help you,” the human sneered, grabbing his crotch in a lewd gesture.

Demonic sniggers bounced around the room, making it hard to tell just how many sick bastards loomed over me.

I curled into a tighter ball on the floor.

I wanted to scream and fight, but the heat just kept punishing me. I reached for the incubus, hating myself even as my hand met his chilly ankle, and the temperature became a fraction more bearable.

“Don’t do this,” I urged.

Tears ran freely down my cheeks as I stared down the dark reality of what was about to happen.

The incubus stroked my cheek, ice in his eyes. “But I want to.”

“What are we waiting for?” one of the horned demons leaning against the wall scoffed. “I’ll go first.”

The incubus hissed at the spiked male, his eyes flashing gold. “Back off. I found her. I’m first.”

A great shattering sounded, and I jerked my arm up on instinct, protecting my face.

“You’re all going to die,” a familiar voice rasped manically. “So. Fucking. Painfully.”
