Page 151 of Heartless
As I reached in the cupboard for a mug, a deafening knock on the front door made me jump, and I hurried to the hallway.Through the peephole, Jake’s head was slightly bent down.I opened the door and stared at him.His hair was disheveled as if his fingers had raked through it several times, but it was his haunted gaze that had my heart skipping a beat.
I instinctively moved closer.“Jake, what’s wrong?”
When he kicked the front door closed and cupped my face, I hooked my hands around his shoulders.
He touched his forehead to mine.“Sienna baby, I—”
“Cutie.Have to run, my agent’s going—”
Matt, coming out of the bedroom while pulling his sweater down to his waist, stopped abruptly. The next second, Jake’s hands dropped to his sides.
In an oppressive silence, Matt cleared his throat. His gait was slow as he walked farther into the living room.He picked up his jacket from the back of the sofa and slid his feet in his shoes.
“You fucked him?”Jake yelled.
He hadn’t yelled. In fact, the words had been between a hiss and a snarl, but it had slapped my brain.Standing between the two men, I whipped my eyes at Jake, and there was so much fury in the hard lines of his face that I stepped back.
Matt started toward me and Jake with a scowl.“Dude, don’t talk to her—”
Jake’s body lurched forth.“I’m not your fucking dude—”
I wedged myself between them.Matt’s cell rang, breaking through the overflow of testosterone-charged aggression clogging the room.
After he’d answered the call, he shifted closer, and I touched his arm.“Go, Matt.”
He glanced at Jake before cupping my cheek, which earned him a grunt from Jake.“I can stay, my—”
I pecked his cheek.“I’ll be fine.Go.I’ll call you later.”
After I’d locked the door behind him, I turned to face Jake.“What the hell is wrong with you?”

Jake
When the neurologist had told me my father was dying, Sienna had been the only person I’d thought of.The only one I’d needed. Here she was in my tee that bared most of her long legs. Her hair was a curly mess, and her lids were heavy with the same look she had after I’d fucked her all night.
She’d fucked the poseur in my fucking tee.And I still fucking craved her.
Her voice softened.“Jake, what happ—?”
“That’s why you needed space for?Fucking other guys? You were mine!”
Her brows furrowed, and her head twitched back.“I’m no one’s.Not yours and not Nigel’s.And you have no right to barge in here and—”
Anger throbbed in my temples, and I towered over her.“I thought you were different. You were pure and—”
Her face flushed and her voice pitched low.“Will you stop with the purity thing?I wasn’t pure, Jake.I just hadn’t had sex.”
A red haze of rage burst through my head.“And now that you had a taste of cock, you’re just like the others.A Morrison whore.”
Her head jerked back, and her eyes took over her face..Fuck her for looking like that after she’d fucking betrayed me.
She stepped forward with a little growl, and her face flushed.“I like sex. That doesn’t make me a whore, you freaking dense neanderthal.”
“You—”
“You’re not the only good lover in the world, and you’re definitely not the only man who wants me.”The hem of my tee flapped over her thighs under the force of her breath.“If that’s all you came here to say, please leave.”
