Page 76 of Hard Rock Desires
Zain gave me a fond smile before it turned into a cheeky smirk.
“You sure you want to listen in?” he asked. “After all, you don’t like rock music, right? It’s not really your thing, right? You only came to my concert because of your friend, right?” he continued to tease.
“I’ll listen because it’s your music,” I told him honestly as I slipped back into my jeans and blouse.
Zain’s smirk turned into a look of surprise. Then his face softened. He entwined our hands together and kissed my forehead.
“Oh crap!” I blurted out.
He pulled back, alarmed.
“What is it?” he asked.
“Did we leave the oven on??”
His eyes widened. “Shit!”
We both raced downstairs as I straightened my shirt and he ran his fingers through his hair.
Zain held onto my other hand the entire time.
Twenty-Four

We hadn’t left the oven on, but the dough had hardened. We tried again, but the second batch turned out too lumpy and the third batch turned out too gooey.
“I give up,” I complained, throwing the rolling pin into the sink. “Let’s just buy pre-made pie crusts.”
“That’s cheating,” Grace said.
“I won’t tell if you won’t,” I replied.
She laughed.
“Maybe we can try something like no-bake peanut butter balls,” she said.
“A recipe that includes no baking seems like a cheat, too.” I groaned and leaned heavily against the counter. “Why did I decide to take a baking class, again?”
“If I recall correctly,” she said, “you were stalking some poor innocent girl so you could have your wicked way with her.”
“I thought you enjoyed my wicked ways?” I smirked and cupped her ass. “You sure didn’t seem to have any complaints when we were upstairs in my bedroom just now.”
She stuck both hands in my back pockets and returned my smirk.
“No complaints whatsoever.” She stood on her tiptoes and brought her mouth close to mine.
Before our lips could touch, there was a loud throat clearing from the doorway. We jumped apart. Kaylee stood there with a bright and slightly devilish smile on her red lips. She’d put on lipstick, which was unusual.
“We’ve got practice now, Zain,” she said, beaming at the two of us.
“Perfect timing, Kay, as usual,” I said.
“Did I interrupt something?” She feigned innocence, twirling a long strand of red hair between her fingers. The curls fell loose over her shoulders, not in the bun I’d seen her in earlier today.
Grace fiddled with the baking utensils in the sink, flushing and avoiding Kaylee’s eyes.
“I actually invited Grace to come watch us practice,” I said. “Think that’ll be okay?”
