Page 30 of Hacking His Code
“I guess our definition may vary. I’m a tech nerd that hides behind computer monitors. I haven’t displayed this much skin…ever.”
Hunter snorts. “I’m going to have Sam dress you in a real slut dress sometime, so our definitions can align.”
I arch a brow. “Sam?”
“Yeah, helped with your makeover. Pixie-like. Perky. Excitable.”
“Oh—Neon.”
His brow furrows. “Is that what you call her?”
“The trio just barged into the room talking all at once, and instead of remembering their names, I came up with Neon, Chestnut, and Purple.”
“Well, Neon certainly suits Sam.”
“How well do you know them?” I ask, trying not to sound as jealous as I feel.
“I came to their acquaintance when I walked into my room one day and found all three of them naked and in my bed.”
Ouch!
My head snaps in his direction, then I force it back to the screen. Why do I have to be so awkward?
“Oh…um, cool. That must have been nice.”
“It was my mother’s doing.”
“Ummm…wow. Ah, my mother brought me a One Direction poster when I began showing interest in boys, but I guess every parent is different.”
“My mother’s not well, hasn’t been for a long time. She wants grandchildren, so I make it a point not to consort with any of the distractions she sends my way. For all I know, she spikes their food with fertility drugs, and I’ll end up with septuplets.”
My mouth gapes open. “No…”
“I can hardly hold it against her. She’s lonely and refuses to go out much after what happened. I put my foot down, and she’s since stopped. She’s just so lonely.”
“How sad…”
“My father works hard to make her happy, and she often is, but she never feels whole.”
“So…did you and the glam squad…” I waggle my brow to get the point across.
He chuckles. “No. They did, however, end up being pretty decent conversationalists, and we chat on occasion. I’m not even Sam and Vanessa’s type, but Joey did try to get a little handsy.”
“Can’t say I blame her,” I blurt out without thinking.
A look of surprise washes over his face, and I feel my cheeks flush pink.
“I mean, if you’re into, you know, muscular tech heirs.”
“Muscular tech heirs?”
My eyes rove his body, an obvious check out. “I mean, yeah.”
“Seems like strong qualifiers to me.”
I make sure he sees me rolling my eyes before returning my gaze back to my screen.
“Don’t think you’re off the hook,” Hunter says.
