“I’d do it again in a heartbeat.” He wraps his arms around my body, pulling me close for a kiss. “I love you, Brynnlee. I’d do anything for you, even set the world on fire if it meant you loved me back.”
“Well, it’s a good thing you don’t have to do that, because I love you too, Rex.” Sadness rolls over me as I realize that since his house is ready for him to move into, we’ll no longer be roommates.
“What’s wrong?” He must have noticed my shift in mood to ask me that question.
“I was just thinking if your house is ready, you’ll be moving out soon.”
“I will, but only after you help me pick out the furniture. Since you’re already my roommate and hopefully much more soon, I want you to help me choose the furniture.”
“Are you sure about that, Rex?” I hold my breath, praying it's true and not a dream.
“I’ve never been surer of anything in my life.” He places a soft kiss on my lips as I melt into his arms.
“Okay, I’ll do it, but on one condition.”
“Anything you want, Brynnlee, it’s yours.” His words fill my heart with love and comfort in the knowledge that we’ve finally given in to our feelings for each other.
“A sex swing. I want a sex swing in our bedroom.”
“Wow, one night of sex and you’ve turned into a little sex freak.”
“Only with you, cowboy, only with you.”
Epilogue - Brynnlee
Five Years Later
“Are you sure we’renot going to get caught?” Rex asks, standing in front of me with nothing on but his cowboy hat, covering up the good parts.
“You said you wanted someone to ride horses with and skinny dip with on your Christmas dating profile.”
“You know, Rhett filled that out for me.”
“So you don’t want to skinny dip with me?” I shed my clothes and stand naked in front of him, basking in the warm July sunshine.
It’s been five years since Rex and I finally took the plunge and confessed our feelings for each other. We’ve spent numerous cold winter nights in front of the fireplace, gone horsebackriding almost daily when the weather's nice, but the one thing we haven’t done is gone skinny dipping.
“What if someone sees us?” His gaze shifts around the secluded part of the lake where no one will see us, as if a group of people is waiting to jump out and spy on us.
“I already cleared it with Junie. We have this spot for the rest of the day.” Surprisingly, for a secluded place, it sees a lot of action—between my boss Junie and her husband, her sisters, their spouses, and her husband’s brothers and their spouses, it's always busy. This place sees more action than the backseat of a car on prom night, or so I’ve been told. I made sure to tell Junie that Rex and I would be here today, enjoying some alone time without the kids. Junie made sure to pass the information on so we wouldn’t be interrupted.
“Nobody's going to see us. Now remove that hat and join me in the water, and show me what my naked cowboy can do with his hands, mouth, or whatever body part he wants to use.” I wade into the warm water, glancing over my shoulder, “Wanna play?”
“Did you just quote Chucky?” He tosses his cowboy hat onto our pile of clothes and jumps into the water after me, catching me easily. He lifts me up and spins me around.
“Hey, it’s a good movie.” I wiggle in his arms, trying to break free, but he’s too strong.
He leans down and kisses my nose, “I have a confession to make. I love you, wife.”
“And I love you, my sexy as hell, naked cowboy husband.”
