Shitty Timing
A ’Dar
“Mate,” I say as I use my thumb to pull her top lip up. “You have fangs.”
The sight of her gleaming white fangs shouldn’t thrill me, shouldn’t make me happier than I’ve been in my entire life. For one, we’re in the middle of a deadly situation. Second, if places were reversed, I can only imagine how terrifying it would be to transform into something so different—another species!
And yet looking at her, seeing her fangs, smelling my blood on her lips, seeing her glowing golden irises, smelling her and knowing it’s the smell of my mate ? My chest swells with pride as well as affection.
“Scared?” I ask, referring to her physical changes.
“Zedd says there are only sixty-two females left.” She obviously doesn’t want to discuss her metamorphosis. I’ll let that rest. “We’ll need a plan,” she says. “When they open the cellblock, I have a feeling it will unleash a new level of hell. Ouch!” She cups her hand over her mouth after, I assume, she cut her lip or tongue with her new fangs.
Machta has unleashed a new primitive nature within me. I can’t control my urge to swipe my tongue between her lips to steal a taste of her blood.
“Xenons’ first set of teeth is blunt. I remember when my fangs first came in. They take some getting used to, mate” I reassure her, then realize my use of the word mate might scare her. “Tell me, Maya. Tell me how all of these changes are affecting you. Are you scared? Angry? There are so many physical changes, not to mention I consider you my mate.”
She breathes deeply, her face thoughtful as she thinks it through, then holds my gaze.
“Every single thing about my life is insane right now. Not to mention I don’t believe in instalove. But fate and biology had other ideas. So, yeah, I guess we’re mates.” She shrugs, then turns on her side to face me and cups my cheek.
“You asked if I’m scared. To be honest, if we’re not physically touching, my body buzzes with the need to rectify that. I like order, not chaos. I definitely don’t like feeling all my choices are left to the whims of chemistry and pheromones. But every cell in my body says we need to be together. So, no. The word mate doesn’t offend me.”
All at once, my protective instincts, strong affection, and lust fly through my body.
Leaning closer, she says, “Let’s see if between you and me we can learn to kiss around our fangs.”
Her pretty human face is so smooth I wonder if my external teeth will mar her delicate skin. It’s much more fragile than Xenon skin. When I retract my facial armor for this kiss, her eyes widen as she observes my changed visage. By the appreciation in her eyes, it’s clear she is not a fan of those evolutionary protections.
We come together in a cataclysm, our teeth clicking as they clash. She slings her leg over my hip and tugs herself closer so our pelvises rub. My arousal spikes, my cock lurches from semi-hard to stiff as stone, and my body readies to mount her.
“I can’t get enough of you,” she breathes on a sigh.
I was just thinking the same thing.
“Are you ready to take me inside you, mate? I need to bury myself in your channel and fill you with my seed.”
“Captain?” It’s Mel’Kan. “We agreed to get together when only sixty females remained. The hallway is empty. Shall we all meet in your room?”
“In ten minutes. Inform Ran’Kin,” I say. Maya needs time to dress.
“Shit. Cockblocker,” she says when the comm ends. She rolls off the bed to search for her clothing. I watch as she bends to retrieve each item. Her form is different. Not only is she taller, but she looks stronger. I can see her muscles sliding underneath her tan skin.
“The answer was going to be yes, A’Dar,” she says from the other side of the room. As I’m trying to track backward to recall what the question was, she says, “Yes, to the question of if I was ready for you to fill me with your seed. Tell your friend he has shitty timing.”
