With a nod, he wipes his tears away along with the water from the shower and turns to pick me up, carrying me to bed. “I’ve never felt more out of sorts. I’m elated to have you in my arms again. But I’m scared to death that bastard is going to try his best to take you back out of them again.”

“I know. I’m afraid too. I wish I knew what to do. I wish there was some way to disappear and make it so that he can never find me again. I wish he was human so the police could arrest his ass and end this.” I close my eyes and fight the tears. I’ve cried so much, and I’m so tired. I just don’t have the energy for anything else.

“Shhh.” His lips press against my forehead as he places me on the bed and pulls the towel off me. He pulls the blanket up to cover me. “You’re safe now. The security system is on, and I’m right here. I’ll be holding you tight until you can’t sleep any longer.”

He climbs into the bed and wraps his body around mine like a cocoon, and I’ve never felt safer in my life.

“Thank you, Grant.” I snuggle into his wide chest and let his warmth comfort me. “I love you.”

“I love you, baby. Now get some sleep.” His lips touch the top of my head, and my eyes close.

He loves me, and I am safe.
