Page 30 of Feral Mates (Ruthless Instinct #1)
We rocked together, our needs escalating. I felt my cock swelling, my knot expanding. She lowered her head, studying me intently. With her lips pursed and her eyes glassy, to me she was the most beautiful creature I’d ever seen.
And she was mine. Maybe I would be sharing her, but that didn’t change my thoughts for the future or the hunger furrowing inside.
She was truly everything I’d wanted in a mate.
Her soft mews continued, the single gasp she moaned an indication I was fully seated inside. She hung her head until our lips were almost touching.
The moment transcended all others. Our coupling and the heightened electricity were more than typical love or even devotion. We were joined together as if one. Heat swelled around us, the air becoming stagnant and in the next few seconds, my body began to shake, my balls swelling with seed.
“So fucking huge,” she murmured. “Amazing.”
I rubbed my hands down her back, cupping her bottom.
She licked her lips before darting her tongue across the seam of my mouth. With every muscle tense, I couldn’t hold back any longer.
A rush of adrenaline pulsed through every vein, my beast roaring to the surface as I erupted deep inside. There was nothing like the satisfaction of mating her.
My low rumbles coming from deep in my chest reverberated in the room. Together we remained, locked in a dance of time and space, never wanting the moment to end.
With a deep sigh, she pressed her face against my neck, the nuzzle sweet and very human. I could get used to this.
I rubbed her back as the sensations began to fade, the world returning to focus in full color. Now the sound of the television seemed far too loud. Slowly the knot began to deflate, allowing her to shift back and forth. I was rewarded with another laugh as her body fully relaxed.
“What the hell?” Savannah jerked her head up, a look of horror replacing the one of joy.
“What’s wrong?”
“Turn that up.” She shifted, forcing herself off my lap and onto her feet. Her body shaking, she moved closer, the look remaining.
Instantly on edge, I reared up from the chair, flanking her side. “What are you seeing?”
“A report on the explosion. They’re saying it was set intentionally,” she half whispered.
“We guessed that was the case.”
“Listen.” Her face was pale, her lips pursed into a thin line.
“A manhunt is underway for Dr. Savannah Morgan. From what little information we’ve received from the Manassas Police Department, she is wanted in connection to the fire as well as sabotage of a highly secretive government project, and murder. She’s considered armed and dangerous.”
“What in the fuck?” Kai snarled.
I threw the other wolves a quick look and could feel the building rage between the three of us.
“They’re using me as a scapegoat. That’s how I just suddenly disappear.
Oh, my God. We need to get out of here now.
” She turned to me, her eyes open wide. “We need to get the flash drives to someone who can help us. Whatever is going on, Dr. Blackwell doesn’t want the public or the government to know. ”
“Dr. Carl Wheaton, a renowned biologist with Blackwell Industries, was found dead at the facility, with early indications it was the result of the explosion.” The reporter’s voice was like a hard slap across her face. I could instantly feel deep, intense pain.
“No. No!” she moaned. “Not Carl. He was my friend. He helped me. They killed him. I know they did. Why? Why?”
“She’s right,” Roman gritted out. “We need to get out of here. They know we’re here.”
Another sound from the distance sent vibrations throughout the house, a rumble under our feet.
Savannah reacted instantly, rushing toward the window and staring up at the sky. “Oh, no.”
“What is it?” Kai moved beside her, every muscle tensing.
“Helicopters. We need to get dressed.” She spun toward us, shaking her head. Terror swept through her and in turn, through all three of us.
“We turn as wolves.”
“Did you bring back my crossbow?” she asked in a tiny voice.
I took a deep breath, flashing a glance out the window as the vibrations closed in. “Yes, but you need to let us save you.”
“We do this together,” she insisted.
Kai grumbled under his breath and took long strides to where he’d placed the crossbow. “We will protect you.”
The moment was oddly cathartic. “We’ll find a way out. Go get dressed and we’ll leave.”
She nodded and rushed to get dressed, turning only once to watch the three of us shift into our wolves.
Everything happened quickly from there. I led the others out the back door toward the trees, their canopies swaying back and forth from the approaching helicopters.
With the crossbow in her hand, she turned back toward the house, ready to shoot if necessary. “They’re coming. Let’s try and get to the road.”
Suddenly, men appeared out of the woods, running around both sides of the house. In full combat gear with weapons raised, they surrounded us.
My stark howl echoed in the forest while the other two provided warning growls, low and deep.
Helicopters landed, more men rushing toward us. There were two dozen of the bastards, maybe more.
“Get the hell away from us.” Savannah turned in a full circle, acting as if she was going to shoot any one of them that approached.
We continued growling, lunging forward by a few feet every time one of the men dared to take a step closer.
One man threw out his arm. “Dr. Morgan. We just want to talk. Nothing more.”
“Bullshit,” she hissed. “Dr. Blackwell did this.”
“You can discuss that with him.” The soldier moved closer and she lifted the bow. “It’s okay. We simply need to take you and the… wolves to somewhere safe. That’s it.”
She refused to back down, her entire body swaying. “You’re lying.”
He took another step closer and I rushed to her side, my growl a clear warning.
The man was terrified, but there was something in his eyes that bothered me.
Reaching out, Savannah placed her hand on my back. “It’s okay, Apollo. It’s going to be okay.”
There was a hum and for a brief second, I could read the man’s mind.
Whoosh!
The sound grabbed my attention. I threw my head back as a net appeared out of nowhere, ensnaring my body. Immediately I struggled as men surrounded me. Kai and Roman were growling, fighting with everything they had to free themselves from the knotted rope.
“Leave them alone!” Savannah cried.
I tried to get to her.
I did what I could, ripping at the rope with my canines.
She was dragged away, the human holding her lifting her off the grass, jerking the crossbow from her hand.
“Don’t you touch them!” She was frantic and I had to get to her.
To protect her.
To save her.
I managed to rip a hole into the net, fighting and clawing.
“Fucking knock them out!” one of the men shouted. “Dart guns. Get the goddamn dart guns now!”
Kai managed to break free, lunging toward the man holding our mate. Another knocked him down using the butt of a rifle. Kai’s horrific howl floated toward the trees.
“No. No. No!” she kept screaming.
A split second later, I felt a sharp pain in my side. A dart. Two others whizzed in the air, hitting Kai and Roman.
“You bastards. You fucking bastards!” Savannah screamed.
I lumbered forward even as more darts bit my flesh, trying to protect her. Trying to…
She got off a single shot before she was surrounded.
As the light began to fade, I heard her calling our names.
One. After. The. Other…
