PIPER

A fter a so-so night of selling artwork, I headed to the crew bar to unwind. Kylie spotted me and called me over with a wave. She was sitting with Damien and both were smiling, in good spirits.

“Hey, there,” I greeted them as I sat down. “How’s my favorite cruise couple?” I said with a grin.

“Brought together, thanks to you,” Kylie said with an appreciative nod.

Yes, I liked to think I had something to do with that. After all, I’d introduced them and played more than a little hand at matchmaking by getting them together on the dance floor. I couldn’t help it—not with the way they stared longingly at each other—and had to do something.

“I think at the very least that deserves a drink,” Damien said. “What can I get you?”

After I told him and he headed to the bar, Kylie said, “What’s going on with you?”

Hex me sideways, did I want to get into that? Sales had dropped in the art gallery, and if we didn’t recover soon, my job could be in jeopardy. I brushed it off with, “Oh, the usual—displaying easels and avoiding weasels.” I grinned and changed the subject.

Damien returned with our round of drinks, and his eyes instantly locked on Kylie. The way he looked at her hit me with a pang. Would anyone ever look at me that way?

That should be the least of my worries right now. I had to focus on finding better sellers for the art gallery and soon. Or else I wouldn’t just have to look for a new job, but a new place to live. And I’d gotten used to ship life and didn’t want to leave it just yet. So I just had to find something incredible.
