Page 465 of Entangled with My Ex’s Uncle
At noon, Chi Yue indeed brought Fu Mianmian to dine with Fu Rongyin.
Fu Rongyin was fine, but the attitudes of Chi Yue and Fu Mianmian were stark contrasts.
Quite coincidentally, they encountered Chu Shuo.
Chu Shuo watched them with a smile, "Today the family of three is quite complete."
Chi Yue kept her head down and ate, not daring to look up.
Chu Shuo’s smile deepened, "It seems there is good news. Whenever you have the wedding candies, don’t forget me."
Chi Yue wanted him to shut up when a sweet-looking girl walked over, affectionately holding his hand, "Chu Shuo, your friend?"
"Hmm? You don’t recognize the famous Fifth Young Master Fu?"
The woman scolded him, "Of course I recognize him, but I’m asking about this lady. Is she your friend?"
Chu Shuo casually said, "Of course, the fiancée of Fifth Master, how could I not recognize her? Let’s go, don’t disturb a family of three having their meal."
The woman’s eyes widened as she excitedly looked at Chi Yue, "Are you Chi Yue? The one who worked at that famous parentage testing center in Nancheng?"
Chi Yue: "... I no longer work there."
The woman reached out her hand, "I’m Leng Siling, the family you helped me find. I hadn’t had the chance to thank you before I heard you were in trouble. I’m so glad you are okay now."
Chi Yue couldn’t remember the woman in front of her, but she shook her hand friendly, "It was my job, no thanks needed."
Leng Siling pulled out a chair next to her, intending to sit down, when Chu Shuo suddenly lifted her up.
"Let’s go, didn’t you see Old Fifth’s face is turning black?"
Leng Siling was dragged to the door before he let go, fuming, "Can’t you be a bit more polite? She was the noble person who helped me."
"Whether she’s noble or not, I don’t know, but if you stayed there, you might have been kneeling and begging without any help soon."
Leng Siling glared at him, "Who exactly is your person? Do you always treat your own people like this?"
Chu Shuo, with a smile that was not quite a smile, circled her neck and walked her out, "You’ll find out later."
Leng Siling was utterly baffled.
It was only much later that she understood the significance of today’s meal between Fu Rongyin and Chi Yue.
After Chu Shuo had left, Chi Yue asked Fu Rongyin, "Is Chu Shuo in a relationship?"
Fu Rongyin: "Why don’t you ask him directly?"
"Never mind if you don’t want to talk about it."
Chi Yue was just asking casually, as she seldom saw Chu Shuo and a woman coming and going together, with Leng Siling being the first.
Soon after, she heard Fu Rongyin say, "It’s the dating stage. Whether it will become serious depends on Chu Shuo."
It took a while for Chi Yue to realize, "Is Chu Shuo unwilling?"
If he was just playing around, it would be hard to say.
"Yes." Fu Rongyin pushed the dish she liked in front of her.
Chi Yue glanced at it, her eyes subtly changing.
She had always wondered how Fu Rongyin knew what she liked to eat. Now she knew; he had always remembered what she liked.
Chi Yue could not help but reminisce about the times they were together.
The first time they dined together, Fu Rongyin did not know her preferences, so he asked her to order. She did not think much of it and ordered what she liked, but half of it was what he did not like.
However, he did not complain and ate it with her.
She did not see him the next day and later learned that he had an allergic reaction.
From then on, he remembered the dishes she liked, and she also remembered the foods he was allergic to, although she had forgotten for many years; her subconscious still remembered them.
At least during the years they were together before, she never made those dishes for him nor ordered them at a restaurant.
"Mommy, what are you thinking about?"
Fu Mianmian’s enlarged face suddenly appeared in front of her, and Chi Yue collected her thoughts, "What’s up?"
Fu Mianmian stared at her bowl, pouting, "Daddy put all the food in your bowl. Don’t you like it?"
Chi Yue looked down and saw her bowl already piled like a small mountain.
466.
She looked at Fu Rongyin, who seemed inclined to continue serving her some dishes.
Chi Yue quickly picked up her bowl, "I can’t eat anymore, give it to Mianmian."
Fu Rongyin raised his eyes, a smile lurking in their depths, "This is for Mianmian, were you thinking of competing with Mianmian for food?"
Chi Yue: "..."
After the meal, Fu Mianmian insisted on dragging them to the amusement park.
Children are natural observers, they are adept at reading adults’ expressions, so when she noticed signs of improvement between Fu Rongyin and Chi Yue, she proposed going to the amusement park.
Chi Yue was somewhat reluctant, she didn’t mind, but she was worried that Fu Rongyin’s body couldn’t handle it.
So she said, "Tomorrow is the weekend, how about we go play with Nan Baixuan?"
"But I want to play with daddy and mommy, is that okay?"
Faced with Chi Yue’s refusal, Fu Mianmian became more cautious.
Before Chi Yue could speak, Fu Rongyin said, "Let’s go, right now."
Chi Yue reluctantly got into the car, and in the car, Fu Rongyin was quietly arranging work over the phone, while Fu Mianmian eagerly counted the rides she would go on later.
Chi Yue recalled the time they had gone to the amusement park together.
They had both taken leave, concocting a flimsy excuse, and under the skeptical gaze of their teacher, she had walked out of the school gate without changing her expression, meeting up in a little alley.
That was the most rebellious thing Chi Yue had done during her adolescence.
She would always remember that boy leaning against the corner of the alley, who had smirked and said, "I thought you weren’t going to show up."
Chi Yue gathered her thoughts, the car had already stopped at the amusement park.
In the afternoon, the amusement park was less crowded, Fu Rongyin got out of the car and took Fu Mianmian towards the merry-go-round.
Chi Yue didn’t move, standing there lost in thought.
Fu Mianmian ran over and took her hand, "Mommy, let’s start with the merry-go-round."
Chi Yue’s eyes flickered slightly.
That sentence was also the first thing she had said after entering the amusement park all those years ago.
She never imagined the second visit to the amusement park would be like this.
All afternoon, Chi Yue was led around by Fu Mianmian; whatever she wanted to play, Chi Yue just had to accompany her.
Fu Rongyin played two rides with Fu Mianmian before she didn’t want him anymore, saying he was too dull and silent.
Chi Yue curled her lips.
She thought, of course, Fu Rongyin had also had a grim face when they played together back then.
She had thought that Fu Rongyin didn’t like amusement parks, but later she found out that Fu Rongyin was afraid of heights, he even feared the height of the merry-go-round.
Thus, by the end of the afternoon, Chi Yue was utterly spent, her feet felt as if they were weighed down with lead.
Fu Mianmian laid in her lap and fell asleep as soon as she was in the car, and just as Chi Yue was worried about whether to lay her down, Fu Rongyin carried her over.
"Tired?" he asked.
"Not really."
Fu Rongyin hooked his lips, not exposing her lie.
Back at the community, Fu Rongyin woke up Fu Mianmian while carrying her from the car, and seeing it wasn’t Chi Yue, she started fussing for Chi Yue.
Having already reached the doorstep, Chi Yue had no choice but to go back and take Fu Mianmian into her arms.
After a great effort to bathe and settle Fu Mianmian back to sleep, Chi Yue also fell asleep exhausted.
In a daze, she felt someone covering her with a blanket, she suddenly opened her eyes to see Fu Rongyin’s hand that he hadn’t yet withdrawn.
Their eyes met, and both were startled.
Chi Yue couldn’t lie down nor stand up, eventually, she slowly closed her eyes, thinking that as soon as Fu Rongyin left, she could leave as well.
But after waiting a long time without hearing Fu Rongyin’s footsteps, she couldn’t pretend anymore, opened her eyes, and once again met his gaze.
