FIFTY-SIX

X abir couldn’t take his eyes off Romi as she curled against him on his penthouse couch, her laughter filling the room during the strip scene in “The Proposal.” The soft glow from enchanted floating candles cast a warm light across her face, making her eyes sparkle with mirth.

“Oh no, he’s going to—” She dissolved into giggles as the character on screen bumped into furniture. “This never gets old.”

Her joy was infectious, pure and unrestrained. His wolf preened at the sound, wanting nothing more than to keep that happiness in her voice forever. She fit perfectly against him, her magic humming contentedly where it brushed against his alpha energy.

“I still can’t believe you’ve never seen this before,” she said, tilting her head to look up at him.

“Romantic comedies aren’t usually my thing.” But watching her react to her favorite scenes made every minute worth it. The way she mouthed certain lines, how she’d squeeze his hand during the emotional moments—he was discovering whole new reasons to love this movie.

Her laughter bubbled up again at another scene. The sound wrapped around his heart, squeezing it with the simple realization that this was everything he’d ever wanted. Not just a mate, but this specific witch who’d stormed into his life and turned everything upside down in the best possible way.

“Xabir?” Romi’s voice pulled him from his thoughts. She’d caught him watching her instead of the movie. “You okay?”

“Perfect.” He traced his thumb across her lower lip, watching her pupils dilate at the touch. “Just thinking about how lucky I am.”

“Yeah?” Her voice carried a breathy quality.

“Yeah.” He leaned down, capturing her lips in a kiss that started soft but quickly deepened as she turned in his arms. Her magic sparked against his skin, making his wolf rumble with satisfaction.

Romi’s hands slid into his hair as she shifted to straddle his lap. “What about the movie?”

“Don’t care.” He nipped at her throat, drawing a gasp. “More interested in you.”

Her laugh turned into a moan as he found that sensitive spot behind her ear. “Demanding alpha.”

“You love it.” His hands slipped under her shirt, tracing patterns on her skin that made her shiver.

“I love it. I also love you,” she corrected, and his heart nearly burst at the simple declaration.

He stood in one fluid motion, lifting her with him. She wrapped her legs around his waist, giggling as he carried her toward the bedroom. “I love you too, little witch. Let me show you how much.”

Later, as moonlight streamed through the windows, Xabir held Romi close while she dozed in his arms. Her magic still pulsed lazily against his skin, perfectly in tune with his own energy. He pressed a kiss to her temple, overwhelmed by the depth of his feelings for this extraordinary woman.

“I love you,” he whispered against her hair.

“Mmm, I love you too.” She snuggled closer, already half-asleep. “My big, bad alpha.”

His wolf rumbled in contentment. This was what he’d been waiting for his whole life—this perfect moment, this perfect mate. As Romi’s breathing evened out in sleep, Xabir tightened his arms around her, silently vowing to spend the rest of his life making her this happy.

Together, they were exactly where they were meant to be.
